Michigan Quicken Loans 400: Fantasy NASCAR “Mid Pack” Projections
Martin Truex Jr. – Truex has three top tens at Michigan and nine finishes outside the top fifteen. I think the track repave will greatly affect Truex and not in the positive way. Truex is at his best on intermediate tracks when he’s running the high line and my hypothesis is that I’m not sure it will exist this weekend. This year on high speed intermediate tracks Truex has been very impressive. In the five races he’s finished in the top 12 in all but one. At the most similar tracks to Michigan visited Truex finished 8th (Auto Club) and 2nd (Kansas, led 173 laps). (Yahoo! B Driver)

AJ Allmendinger – Allmendinger has had some respectable performances at Michigan. He’s never finished in the top ten but his four most recent finishes are 11th, 17th, 13th and 11th. Earlier this year in a Penske Dodge he finished 15th at Michigan’s sister track (Auto Club). This weekend I think he’ll finish in the teens but with his bad luck intangible he could just as easily finish in the thirties. Allmendinger is a good qualifier and I think he has a good chance at competing for the pole. He won the pole at Kansas this year (1.5 mile version of Michigan) and Kurt Busch in the #22 car won the last two June poles at Michigan. (Yahoo! B Driver)
