Watkins Glen Finger Lakes 355: Fantasy NASCAR “Mid Pack” Projections

Kurt Busch – Watkins Glen is a skill track like Infineon but I think it’s an easier track to drive. Because it’s easier it brings more drivers to contention which will make a successful afternoon for Kurt Busch more difficult. Watkins Glen has been a good track for Kurt Busch with the exception of his 38th place brake failure last season. Between 2007 and 2010 Kurt Busch had a 7.5 average finish and the 5th best driver rating (104.6). In 2010 he finished second to Juan Pablo Montoya. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth has been Mr.Consistent at Watkins Glen. In the last five races he’s finished 14th, 13th, 14th, 12th and 12th. I don’t know how he could be any more consistent. Another aspect about his consistency that needs to be noted is that he completes laps and stays on the track. In twelve races at Watkins Glen he’s completed every lap but one. Kenseth has three top tens at the Glen but his last was in 2004. At Infineon in June Kenseth finished 13th. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne is a former Infineon winner but he’s had no such luck at Watkins Glen. At Watkins Glen he’s never finished in the top ten and has a best finish of 14th. His average finish is a non-skewed 19.1. I say it’s non-skewed because all of his finishes have been between 14th and 26th. He’s also completed every lap run in his eight races. His last three Watkins Glen finishes have been 26th, 17th and 17th. He’s certainly consistent here but his finishes aren’t where fantasy racers want them to be.
