Watkins Glen Finger Lakes 355: Fantasy Racing Drivers To Avoid
Paul Menard – Last year at Watkins Glen Menard was involved in an accident and finished 32nd. Prior to that Menard finished in the high teens in three of the last four races (16th, 19th, 28th and 19th). His overall track record at Watkins Glen is pretty unimpressive. His average finish is 24.9 and his average starting position is 30.8. At Infineon this year Menard started in 23rd and finished in 20th. Between his 13 total road course races he’s only started in the top ten once and has a best finish of 16th. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Boris Said – The age of the road course ringers is over and so are Said’s chances of getting a top ten finish. In 2005 he finished 3rd but since then he has a best finish of 14th and an average finish of 27.1. In recent years Boris has had a lot of problems with cup drivers not respecting him on the track. For this reason alone I would avoid him because it’s led to many bad finishes. (Yahoo! C Driver)

Sam Hornish Jr. – Sam Hornish Jr. has an open wheel background but it wasn’t in a series that focused on road courses. Road courses have proven to difficult venues for Hornish. He’s raced at Infineon three times and has three finishes of 31st or worse. He’s fared a little better at Watkins Glen but not by much. At the Glen his best finish is 14th but his other finishes are 36th and 32nd. His average finish in six road course races is 29.3. (Yahoo! C Driver)
Aric Almirola – Aric Almirola only has one start under his belt at Watkins Glen. In 2008 he started in 15th and finished one lap down in 35th. That’s not much of a history anyone can endorse. At Infineon this year he didn’t fare any better. In that race he started in 28th and finished 30th. His average running position was 17th and he only ran .9% of the laps run in the top fifteen. Regan Smith – Last year at Watkins Glen Smith had his best finish. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of fantasy value in a 23rd place finish. It sure beats his earlier 34th and 37th place finishes though. This year at Infineon Smith started in 31st and finished 32nd. (Yahoo! C Driver)
David Ragan -David Ragan has been pretty consistent at Watkins Glen. He’s completed all but one lap and has finished between 24th and 32nd every race. I don’t think this is the consistency you’re looking for but it tells you exactly what you should expect. David Ragan is no road course ringer. He hasn’t fared any better at Infineon. At the west coast road course he has a best finish of 24th and an average finish of 27.8. In June he finished 27th. (Yahoo! C Driver)
Bobby Labonte – Last year Labonte had his best Watkins Glen finish since 2004. His finish was 19th and his average running position was 19th. Since his 2004 11th place finish his average finish has been 28.6. I bet you can find a better pick for the Finger Lakes 355. At Infineon in June Labonte finished 24th. (Yahoo! C Driver)
