Pure Michigan 400: Fantasy NASCAR “Mid Pack” Projections
Marcos Ambrose – Marcos Ambrose had a hot rod in June. He won the pole and finished 9th. While he was leading not to many competitors had anything for him. When he lost track position during a round of pit stops he remained back in the pack. Other than his 9th this June all of his other finishes at MIS are 15th or worse. Two mile ovals haven’t been good venues for Ambrose. At California his average finish is 27.7 and he’s never finished in the top twenty. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Ryan Newman – Ryan Newman had a quick car at the start of the race earlier this year. He started towards the back of the pack because of an engine change and by lap #9 he moved up to 24th. I think a big factor in that would be that other drivers were being cautious on the new surface and he was going all out. In the second half of the race Newman had a mid to high teens car. At the end he finished 15th and had a 15th place average running position. Newman has been pretty good on 2 mile ovals lately. Last year at MIS he finished 5th and 6th. In his last three races at Auto Club Speedway his finishes have been 7th, 5th and 5th. (Yahoo! B Driver)
