Pure Michigan 400: Drivers To Avoid
Kurt Busch – In June when the series visited Michigan Kurt Busch was fresh off his suspension. When the green flag waved for his first race back it didn’t take him long to find trouble. On lap #2 he spun and damaged the nose of his car. Later on in the race he spun again. Kurt Busch has two wins at Michigan but his track record isn’t very good. In 23 races he has three top fives and eight top tens. What I find troubling about him is that he’s finished outside the top twenty in about half his races. On another note though some of his better finishes this season have come on this track type. Some notable intermediate track finishes would be a 9th at Auto Club and a 13th at Texas. (Yahoo! Jeff Burton – Jeff Burton hasn’t been a very good intermediate track option this season. On this track type his average start is 23rd and his average finish is 21.6. He hasn’t fared much better in the races. On high speed intermediates this season he’s only ran 8% of the laps run in the top fifteen. In June at Michigan Burton lived up to his intermediate average finish and crossed the finish line in 21st. Top ten finishes are pretty rare for Burton at MIS. Since 2003 he’s only finished in that range once. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Regan Smith – Michigan hasn’t been a good track for Smith. Last August he finished 13th but in his other MIS races he’s finished 21st or worse. This June he finished 28th and had a 19th place average running position. He was running in 18th with about 10 laps to go but had a flat tire late. This season on high speed intermediate track races Smith has a 22.9 average finish and has only finished in the top twenty three times. Smith currently has back to back top tens, can he make it three? (Yahoo! B Driver)
Bobby Labonte – Labonte had one of his better races this June at Michigan. For much of the race he was running in the high teens to low twenties but at the end when others had problems he wound up finishing 16th. It’s his only top 20 finish on a high speed intermediate track this season. His average finish on high speed intermediates this season is 26.7. Last August Labonte finished 15th which was his only top 15 finish at MIS since 2008. (Yahoo! C Driver)

David Ragan – During his tenure with Roush Fenway Racing Michigan was one of his better tracks. In his new Front Row Racing ride this year he finished 23rd and posted the 31st best driver rating. This season on high speed intermediate tracks Ragan has a 29.1 average finish and a best finish of 21st. Don’t look for much out of David Ragan in the Pure Michigan 400. (Yahoo! C Driver)
