Richmond Federated Auto Parts 400: Fantasy NASCAR “Top Tier Elite” Picks
Denny Hamlin – Richmond is Denny Hamlin’s home track and he’s always been impressive here. Since his first start when he finished 2nd with an injured arm to this spring when he finished 4th there’s no question he’s a “Top Tier Elite” driver. Heading into the Federated Auto Parts 400 with back to back wins I think he’s the favorite. In thirteen RIR races Hamlin has 2 wins, 7 top fives and 9 top tens. His stats line only shows two wins but there’s been some races in the past that he had the best car but but didn’t win. One example was in 2008. In that race he won the pole, led 381 laps but had a flat tire in the closing laps. In the last five Richmond races Hamlin has a 5.4 average finish and the third best driver rating (111.0). (Yahoo! Tony Stewart – Tony Stewart had the best car in April at Richmond. That’s reflected in the brand new PROS Rankings. He started in 22nd and drove to the top five in about 100 laps. Once he got there he never looked back. In the last quarter of the race Tony Stewart had the dominate car hands down. With 15 laps to go he had a three-second lead over Kyle Busch but with 14 to go a caution came out and he had trouble on a pit stop. Some important notes about him from the spring race are that he struggled on restarts (not just once) and during long green flag runs no one had a better car than him. Richmond has been a very good track for Stewart. He has three wins and has finished in the top ten in two-thirds of his races. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch has won the last four spring races at Richmond and he hasn’t been to shabby in the fall races (4.3 average finish in the last three fall races). There isn’t a better fantasy prospect than him heading in the Federated Auto Parts 400. Because of this he’ll be a very popular experts pick. From a career prospective his Richmond results are nearly unrivaled. In fifteen races he has four wins and has finished in the top five in 80% of his races. This spring Kyle Busch didn’t have the best car but he still squeaked out the win. Since 2010 Rowdy has a 2.2 average finish, 6.2 average running position and the best driver rating in the series (125.4). (Yahoo! A Driver)
