Drivers To Avoid In The Dover AAA 400
Jamie McMurray – McMurray has been mediocre at Dover. In the last four Monster Mile races he’s finished between 13th and 20th. His last top ten finish at Dover was in 2008. While he was a member of Roush Fenway Racing he came close to victory lane and had a best finish of 2nd. The #1 team has really struggled this year and I think the chances are slim he’ll get a good finish. Since the July race at New Hampshire he only has one top fifteen finish and it was a 14th. (Yahoo! Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch is the defending champion of this race. Last fall he started in 2nd, led 90 laps and held off Jimmie Johnson. Because of how good his car was I’m sure that makes Sam Hornish Jr. happy entering the AAA 400. This June in his Finch Racing car he was nowhere near competitive. He started in 9th and dropped like a rock. He ran much of the race down a cylinder and then with about 55 laps left he blew up. Kurt Busch should be considered a high risk pick. He’s only finished on the lead lap once in the last eleven races. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Juan Pablo Montoya – In June Juan Pablo Montoya was involved in the lap #8 “Big One”. If he didn’t wreck I think it’s likely he would’ve finished poorly anyways. When he wrecked he was running 30th. The “Monster Mile” has been tough on Montoya. In eleven races he’s only finished in the the top twenty four times. I honestly see no upside in picking Montoya. In the last five Dover races his average finish is 25.6 and he’s only raced 8.7% of the laps in the top fifteen. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Regan Smith – On lap #8 Regan Smith was involved in the “Big One”. This led to him finishing in 27th place 94 laps down. Last fall Smith had his best result at Dover and finished 17th. That was his only top twenty in nine races. Smith had initially been running better since the crew chief change but it seems his forward momentum has stalled. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Bobby Labonte – I think Bobby Labonte might be good for a low to mid twenties finish. His last three finishes here are 20th, 26th and 18th. Doing any better than my predicted mark would be a surprise. Since 2007 he’s only finished in the top fifteen once. When Labonte was in his prime Dover was a great track for him. At one point in his career he had seven straight top five finishes. (Yahoo! C Driver)

David Ragan – David Ragan had one of his better finishes earlier this year at Dover. He finished 21st and he owes a lot of gratitude to the “Big One” taking out a number of cars. Dover has never been a good track for Ragan. Roush Fenway cars are always good here but that never helped Ragan. He has zero top tens here and only two top fifteen finishes. One statistic that really stands out to me about Ragan is that in twelve races he’s never finished on the lead lap. (Yahoo! C Driver)
