Charlotte Bank Of America 500: Fantasy NASCAR “Top Tier Elite” Picks
Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne will be one of the favorites to win the Bank Of America 500. He’s won at this venue four times and is the most recent winner. In May Kahne led 96 laps and had a 4th place average running position. His 135.5 driver rating tied him with Greg Biffle for the best of the event. What makes Kahne so good at Charlotte is his ability to find the “fast line” around the track. This track is very sensitive to changes in elements (temperature etc.) and I would argue no one is better than him at adapting to changing conditions. Kahne is one of the best drivers on 1.5 mile tracks. On them this season he has 5 top tens and a 9th place average running position (7 total races). A few weeks ago at Chicagoland (1.5 mile track) Kahne started in sixth and finished third. My prediction is Kahne will win the Bank of America 500. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Brad Keselowski – You can never count out Keselowski and at Charlotte he’ll be a contender for the win. In the last four races at 1.5 mile tracks he’s finished 5th, 1st, 3rd and 1st. No other driver has finished in the top five in all four of these races. I also like Keselowski’s track record at Charlotte. It has built in sleeper potential that others might not realize. In May he finished 5th but his average finish in his other Charlotte races is 18.8. Last May (2011) Brad finished 19th but he was much better than that. If he didn’t restart behind drivers who ran out of gas he would’ve finished in the top ten (Yahoo! Race Chart). (Yahoo! A Driver)

Jimmie Johnson – This track isn’t called Lowes anymore but I don’t think Jimmie Johnson has lost his touch. Some of his finishes here haven’t been the best lately but I’m not concerned. In May Jimmie Johnson finished 11th but he was better than that. What happened is that he had a pit road mistake. If that didn’t happen it’s likely he would’ve finished in the top three (Yahoo! Race Chart). Last year in the Chase he finished 34th but that can be attributed to a wreck in the closing laps with Ryan Newman (Yahoo! Race Chart). Jimmie Johnson is in Chase mode and I think he’ll be mistake free. From a career perspective Johnson has been awesome at Charlotte. He’s won here six times and has fourteen top tens. What fantasy racers have to like about Johnson is how good he’s been on 1.5 mile tracks this year. On them he has a 8.6 average finish (4th best) and a 119.5 driver rating (best in series). A few weeks ago at Chicagoland Johnson started on the pole, led 172 laps and finished 2nd. I think Jimmie Johnson will be a very popular experts pick this week. (Yahoo! A Driver)
