Martinsville Tums Fast Relief 500: Fantasy NASCAR “Top Tier Elite” Picks
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson is as good of a fantasy pick as they’ll come for the Martinsville Tums Fast Relief 500. He’s won here six times and has only three finishes outside the top ten. His last Martinsville win was in 2009 but by no means has he lost his touch. He had this race won last year but a Brian Vickers caution took away a certain victory. This spring Jimmie Johnson had a great car. What I really liked about him was his ability to handle traffic. He started deep in the field, got a speeding penalty but he still managed to drive his car to the front of the field. On lap #326 he passed Gordon for the lead and lead 117 laps. He would’ve finished either 1st or 2nd but David Reutimann’s last caution put him and the #24 in an unfavorable restart scenario. My Martinsville prediction is Jimmie Johnson will win the Tums Fast Relief 500. (Yahoo! A Driver)
Desperate fantasy racers do desperate things. Smart fantasy racers get the ifantasyrace advantage.
Jeff Gordon – Jeff Gordon’s car was the class of the field at Martinsville in April. He started in 9th and took the lead on lap #22. He led 328 laps and earned the best driver rating (133.1). You also can’t leave out the fact he had the #1 PROS Ranking. What made Gordon so good was his drive off the corners. All of the Hendrick cars were clearly superior to the competition. Jimmie Johnson had the best car in the last quarter of the race but Jeff Gordon still managed to reel him in and pass him with 3 laps to go. Then David Reutimann brought out the caution when he parked his car on the track. The last restart was his undoing because him and Johnson were on old tires and everyone else got four. Jeff Gordon is a living legend at Martinsville. In 39 races he has 7 wins, 9 poles, and 31 top tens. Only three times in his career has he finished outside the top twenty. If you pick Jeff Gordon you can expect a good result but take note his last win here was in 2005. I wouldn’t be surprised if quite a few experts pick Jeff Gordon to win. (Yahoo! A Driver)
