Phoenix AdvoCare 500: Fantasy NASCAR “Top Tier Elite” Picks
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson arguably had the best car at Phoenix earlier this year. His car could roll through the center of the turns better than anyone and when he was out in front of the field the #48 was tenths quicker than the competition. The race wasn’t trouble free for him though. Just before the mid point of the event he had lug nut stud issues and had to make multiple pit stops to correct the issue. This problem got him deep in the field but he was still able to drive up to a 4th place finish. If he didn’t have that issue I think he likely would’ve won. He started in 4th, led 55 laps and became the all-time laps leader in the desert. Johnson is in Chase mode and my prediction is that he’ll win the Phoenix AdvoCare 500. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Denny Hamlin – In March Denny Hamlin held off Kevin Harvick and won his first race at Phoenix International Raceway. He started in 13th, had an average running position of 4th and earned the 2nd best driver rating (130.0). When it comes to shorter flat tracks Hamlin is the driver to beat. Since the Phoenix reconfiguration last fall I view this raceway as a reverse Richmond. Just before the Chase started Hamlin had the fastest car in the Richmond cut off race. He led more than half the event (202 laps) but his finish is misleading because of how that race played out. New Hampshire is also a similar track (not as similar as before) and Hamlin looked like Super Man there. Look for Hamlin to be a very popular experts pick in the AdvoCare 500. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Brad Keselowski – Keselowski had a very good car in March. He ran door to door with Jimmie Johnson in the last segment of the race and prevented the #48 from making a run at the leaders. In that race he started in 28th, had a 7th place average running position and finished in 5th. One variable you have to like about Brad in the AdvoCare 500 is that he recently tested here. That should almost guarantee that he’ll be competitive. Brad Keselowski isn’t going to lay down in this race and I think he’ll play into the mix for the win. Penkse Racing has traditionally made great horsepower at this venue and they’ll have it again. Fuel mileage will come into play in this race and the #2 team is still the best in the business at playing that game. (Yahoo! A Driver)
