Five Quality Fantasy NASCAR Sleeper Options For The Daytona 500
Paul Menard – In the second Budweiser Duel Race Menard had a strong car. Most drivers ran exclusively on the top groove but Menard was able to make moves and pass cars on the bottom groove. That factor could be huge in the Daytona 500 especially when there’s a full field of cars on the track. Menard has also been pretty good at restrictor plate tracks lately. In 2011 he scored the most points in the series at these venues and in 2012 he scored the 11th most. Menard isn’t a flashy name and in my opinion that helps his fantasy value.
Jeff Burton – Burton has become a restrictor plate track ace. In a way you could call him the “Boris Said” of plate tracks. He’s been about as solid as they come at these high attrition tracks lately. I don’t know how he does it considering his luck seems to be bad everywhere else. Last season at Daytona Burton had finishes of 5th and 2nd. For the season he scored the 2nd most points on this track type and had a 6.8 average finish. On Thursday in his Duel Race he finished 8th. He didn’t do anything mentionable but he ran well.
