Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500: Fantasy NASCAR “Mid Pack” Predictions
Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch will have strong sleeper potential in the Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500. Last year when he drove the Furniture Row #78 he finished 8th. He deserves high praise for that because he might’ve been even better than that. In the first third of the race he ran almost exclusively in the top eight. Then around the lap 125 pit cycle he fell from 4th to 26th because he had a loose wheel and had to make two pit stops to correct that issue. The old Kurt Busch would’ve totally blown up if this happened. He knows the #78 car is likely his last chance so he kept his cool. In the first race on the new surface (2011) it looked like Busch would win but late in that event he ran out of gas and got a speeding penalty (Yahoo! Race Chart). Kurt Busch could performer better than I’m projecting but a safe prediction would be for him to finish “Mid Pack”. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Joey Logano – Joey Logano was an innocent victim in the Jeff Gordon / Clint Bowyer incident. Before he got collected up in the carnage he was running in 6th. In the March race at Phoenix Sliced Bread started in 9th and finished 10th. In the Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500 there’s certainly reason for optimism in Logano. Last year his teammate Brad Keselowski was one of the strongest performers at the venue. In the November race Keselowski cemented his position as the Phoenix PROS Ranking #1 driver. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Aric Almirola – In November Aric Almirola consistently ran in the top ten until the lap 167 caution (Yahoo! Race Chart). Then during that pit stop his team took two tires and started to fall back slowly. Later in the race when the Jeff Gordon / Clint Bowyer incident happened Almirola was running in 17th and somehow managed to get collected up in the carnage. Luckily the damage wasn’t fatal and he finished 16th. Last March Almirola finished 12th despite having a 20th place average running position. (Yahoo! B Driver)
