Martinsville STP Gas Booster 500 Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Jimmie Johnson -You can’t go wrong if Jimmie Johnson is your Fantasy NASCAR pick to win the Martinsville Gas Booster 500. In October he returned to victory lane and took home his 7th grand father clock. In the race he started on the pole, led a race high 193 laps, had a third place average running position and earned the best driver rating. Last spring Jimmie Johnson would’ve finished either first or second but he was a victim of Clint Bowyer’s “Hail Mary”. Johnson had the 2011 fall race won but “bumper car Vickers” brought out late cautions that took away a near certain victory. In twenty-two races at Martinsville Johnson has 15 top fives and 19 top tens. He’s also led nearly 2000 laps and has only one finish worse than 12th (first race). My prediction is that he’ll win the Martinsville STP Gas Booster 500. Don’t underestimate this post just because it’s early in the week. Excluding the Daytona 500 my “Top Tier Elite” pick to win has two wins and two third place finishes. (Yahoo! A Driver)
Jeff Gordon – Jeff Gordon had a strong showing in both Martinsville races last season. In the spring race he led 328 laps, had a second place average running position and earned the best driver rating. If David Reutimann didn’t bring out a late caution when he stopped on the track a Gordon victory was very conceivable. He reeled in Jimmie Johnson at the end and passed him right before the caution came out. Then during a late restart he was on old tires and was the victim of Clint Bowyer’s dive bomb. Last fall once again Gordon was a serious contender. Many garage insiders considered him the favorite because of how good the #24 was at driving off the corners. In the race Gordon was very fast. He started in 11th and drove up to 2nd in only 30 laps. He led 92 laps and had a 5th place average running position. If there wasn’t a late caution in October then once again it would’ve come down to the Jeff and Jimmie show. In forty races at Martinsville Gordon has 9 poles, 7 wins, 25 top fives and 32 top tens. (Yahoo! A Driver). Don’t be shocked if many Fantasy NASCAR experts pick Gordon to win.

Kyle Busch – If you want to pick a driver outside the “Big Three (Johnson, Gordon and Hamlin)” at Martinsville Kyle Busch might be your best option. Last fall he started in 3rd and finished 2nd. Also in four out of the last seven races here he’s finished in the top four. Additionally in two out of the last four races he’s led the most laps. One attribute I like about Kyle Busch is that he’s been good every week this season. With how good JGR cars are here and how good they’ve been in Gen 6 I see no reason to expect a disappointment.
