Fantasy Racing Not So Fast – Texas NRA 500
Jeff Burton – Jeff Burton is one of a few repeat winners at Texas. He won the inaugural race in 1997 and returned to victory lane a decade later. Burton hasn’t had much success at Texas recently. He hasn’t finished in the top ten since 2009. In the last five Texas races he has a 24.4 average finish and has only ran in the top fifteen 25% percent of the time. His last highlight he’s made here is when he wrecked Gordon under caution in 2010 (Video). This season at intermediate tracks Burton has a 21.5 average finish and a 22nd place average running position. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Juan Pablo Montoya – Montoya has to be considered a high risk pick in the NRA 500. At Texas he has a 23.5 average finish and since the fall race of 2009 he’s finished 28th or worse four times (seven total races since then). Last fall he finished 34th but in the next three most recent races he’s finished in the teens. Montoya has really struggled on the track this season. If you’re a believer in momentum (external link) than I would highly recommend you avoid him. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Danica Patrick – I expect Danica Patrick to really struggle in this race. Las Vegas is the most similar track visited this year and in that race she finished six laps down in 33rd. She didn’t finish six laps down because she had problems, she finished six laps down because she was that uncompetitive. At Auto Club Speedway once again she struggled. Last year Danica Patrick raced in the fall race at Texas and finished on the lead lap in 24th. (Yahoo! C Driver)
Bobby Labonte – Bobby Labonte has been terrible at his home track. Since 2001 he’s only finished in the top ten once (2006) and all of his other finishes are outside the top fifteen. Over these last twenty races he has a 28.2 average finish. Last year at Texas Labonte had finishes of 33rd and 27th. I would be very concerned to have Labonte on my team this week. He’s really struggled in the Gen 6 car at high speed intermediate tracks. In the two races in the new car on this track type he’s finished 30th and 28th. (Yahoo! B Driver)
David Ragan – This season in the Gen 6 car at intermediate tracks David Ragan has finishes of 31st and 24th. That’s really about all you need to know about his fantasy potential for the NRA 500. Last year at Texas Ragan finished 28th and 25th. Since he’s been at Front Row Motorsports his best finish on this track type is 20th. (Yahoo! C Driver)
