Richmond Toyota Owners 400 Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch absolutely owns the spring race at Richmond. He’s won the last four consecutive spring races and has a ridiculous 2.1 average finish (in spring). Also in the last four spring races he’s led 546 laps, a 3.3 average running position and a 136.7 driver rating. By comparison the driver with the next best driver rating is Denny Hamlin and his is 113.3. From a career perspective Kyle Busch has been remarkably successful at Richmond. In sixteen starts he has 4 wins, 12 top fives, 13 top tens and has never finished worse than 20th. Last fall Kyle Busch was off his game. His team fumbled in the pits and he ended up finishing one lap down in 16th. In the spring race Kyle Busch didn’t have the best car but he still walked away with the win due to a late caution and a strong restart. Phoenix is a similar track and I think Kyle Busch likely had a top five car in March. He just had problems during the course of the weekend. He started in the back due to an engine change and this caused him to drive aggressively and he got into the wall. Out of all the races on the schedule this is the one he’s a “Must Pick Driver’. My prediction is that Kyle Busch will win the Toyota Owners 400. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Carl Edwards – Carl Edwards was very good last spring. He started in second, led 206 laps, had a 4th place average running position and finished 10th. In the race he made a critical mistake when he jumped a restart. His error was both intentional and obvious. NASCAR scoring temporarily showed him in the lead which he obviously wasn’t so he thought he could take advantage of the opportunity on a restart. Last fall Edwards finished 17th. Prior to the fall 2012 race Edwards had five consecutive top ten finishes. Phoenix is very similar to Richmond and earlier this season Edwards finished 1st and led 122 laps. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer is an elite driver on shorter flat tracks like Richmond. He’s raced here 14 times and has finished in the top twelve 86% percent of the time. Last fall Bowyer took home his second Richmond trophy. In the race he started in 4th, had a 4th place average running position and led 88 laps. In the race he got remarkably lucky. During a round of pit stops Bowyer was out on old tires and Montoya was on fresh tires. They then had contact which cut down Bowyer’s tire. This incident gave him a vital edge in the race because it allowed him to get out of sequence with the other contenders. If that didn’t happen I don’t think he would’ve won. In the 2012 spring race he finished 7th. At Phoenix earlier this season Bowyer finished 6th. (Yahoo! A Driver)
