Richmond Toyota Owners 400 Top 10 Confidence Ranking Picks
1. Kyle Busch – The spring race at Richmond is Kyle Busch’s race to lose. He’s won the last four consecutive spring races and never finished outside the top five in spring. In the fall races Kyle Busch has also been impressive with the exception of when he’s racing under pressure. On Saturday night he’ll be under no pressure so look for him to be fantasy gold. Recently at Richmond Kyle Busch’s stats are unrivaled with the exception of Hamlin but he won’t be racing on Saturday night. In sixteen Richmond starts Busch has 4 wins, 12 top fives, 13 top tens and has never finished worse than 20th. Last year in this race Kyle Busch didn’t have the best car but he still found a way to win. On Saturday night he’ll start in 13th.

2. Clint Bowyer – Picking Clint Bowyer on shorter flat tracks is always a smart thing to do. In my opinion it’s the track type that I trust him the most on. Last fall at RIR Bowyer won his second career race here. He led 88 laps and had a 4th place average running position. He was aided by events and circumstances in the race but he did earn the second best PROS Rankings. Throughout his career he’s been very consistent. He’s raced here 14 times and has finished in the top twelve 86% percent of the time. Currently on this track type Bowyer has 8 consecutive top ten finishes. At the conclusion of practice today Bowyer seemed happy with his car. In Happy Hour he had the 5th best 10 lap average.
3. Matt Kenseth – Don’t let his recent penalties scare you away because it won’t be a factor. His crew chief is still there so the #20 team is at full strength. They’ve shown some early muscle this weekend by winning the pole and having the best 10 lap average in Practice #1. In the Richmond Toyota Owners 400 I would look for Kenseth to finish well. His historical stats don’t necessarily mean a lot because Joe Gibbs cars are much better here than Roush Fenway cars. The best gauge for Kenseth’s fantasy value is Phoenix and in that race he ran well and finished 7th.

4. Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne and the #5 team were very good at Richmond last season. In the spring race he finished 5th and in the fall he finished a misleading 12th. In the fall race played out traditionally I think he would’ve finished in the top five. What was notable about his car last fall was how strong he was over long runs. At the start of the race he was able to move from 21st to 6th by the time of the competition caution. Another attribute I like about Kahne is how strong he’s been at shorter flat tracks recently. He won at New Hampshire last season and in 2011 he won at Phoenix. In 2005 Kahne won his first career race here. Today in Happy Hour Kahne had the 7th best 10 lap average. He qualified 4th for the Richmond Toyota Owners 400.
