Daytona Coke Zero 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin had a strong car in the Daytona 500. Don’t be fooled by his 14th place finish. In the race he started deep in the field (35th) but still managed to have a 10th place average running position and lead 33 laps. What happened to him is that late in the race he got scuffled out of line by Joey Logano. It’s important to take note though that he was the driver who helped push Jimmie Johnson into the lead. In the race he could’ve also been potentially better if some of his Toyota teammates engines lasted until the end. With 65 laps remaining the top six was entirely composed of Toyota’s and three of them didn’t make it until the end. Last year at Daytona Hamlin had one of the strongest cars. In the 2012 Daytona 500 he led the most laps and finished 4th (57 laps). Last July with 8 laps to go he was running in 4th but came across Kyle Busch’s nose and caused the big one. (Yahoo! A Driver)
Jeff Gordon – In the Daytona 500 Jeff Gordon had a very fast car. He qualified second and side drafted Danica Patrick on the first lap and took the lead. From there he proceeded to lead the first 31 laps. While he was leading he got garbage on his grill which impacted him for much of the race. Even past the mid-point the #24 car drove in prevent mode because they had water pressure issues as a result. Late in the race he drove up into the top five again but he picked the wrong lane in the draft (middle) and faded back to a 20th place finish. Last year at Daytona Jeff Gordon was very unlucky. He cooked his engine in the Daytona 500 and was very unlucky in July (2012). In that race he was involved in multiple incidents and even wrecked coming down pit road. Daytona has recently been a pretty rough track for this six-time winner. Since 2008 he only has two top tens and has finished 20th or worse 63.6% percent of the time. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. had a good car in the Daytona 500. With 25 laps remaining he was running in 2nd but then his motor blew up. That was a problem that also plagued a few other notable Toyota drivers. If that didn’t happen he certainly would’ve been a contender. From a career perspective Daytona has been a treacherous track for Truex. He’s raced here sixteen times and has 1 top ten and has only finished in the top fifteen a quarter of the time. Truex Jr.’s highlight at Daytona is his ability to lead at the mid-point. He’s lead at that mark in two out of the last three Daytona 500’s. At Talladega this season Treux Jr. finished 7th. (Yahoo!
