Watkins Glen CHEEZ-IT 355 Yahoo! C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview
Max Papis – At Watkins Glen Max Papis will be driving the #14 car in place of Tony Stewart. I like his Yahoo! C List fantasy potential. He tested the #14 car for Tony Stewart at Road Atlanta to prepare for Watkins Glen so the car is probably to his liking. In most road course ringer situations that’s not the case. Papis last drove at road courses in the Sprint Cup level back in 2010. In that season he finished 22nd at Watkins Glen. In 2009 he finished 9th.
AJ Allmendinger – Watkins Glen has been a good track for AJ Allmendinger. He has a 9.0 average finish and his two most recent results are 8th and 4th. His two most recent qualifying efforts are a more than respectable 2nd and 4th. AJ Allmendinger is a very good road course racer but his ceiling is his equipment. On Sunday he’ll be driving the #47 which is a lower middle pack car. A likely finish for him would be in the mid teens.
Casey Mears – Casey Mears isn’t a bad road course racer. Back in 2004 he actually led the series in points accumulated on this track type. In the last five races at the Glen Casey Mears has finished between 15th and 20th every race. In last season’s race he finished 16th and had an 18th place average running position. At Infineon in June he finished 16th.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is no road course ringer. At Infineon he really struggled. He qualified 37th, had a 30th place average running position and finished 27th. In the Nationwide Series he has two starts under his belt at Watkins Glen. In 2011 he finished 15th and last year he finished 4th. In Yahoo! do not pick him no matter what. I wouldn’t pick him even if he started on the pole.
Boris Said – The day of road course ringers is over. To many regular drivers have learned the art of road course racing. Said has twelve Sprint Cup races under his belt at Watkins Glen and has a 24.4 average finish. In the last five races here he’s finished 24th or worse every race and has a 28.6 average finish. Last season he finished 25th. At Sonoma earlier this season he finished 18th.
Ron Fellows – At Watkins Glen Ron Fellows will be driving the #33. He drove this car earlier this season at Infineon. In that event he started in 25th and finished 22nd. Fellows has participated in 14 races at the Glen. He has three top ten finishes, four top twenties and a 26.9 average finish. If you pick him don’t get your hopes up.
Danica Patrick – At Infineon this season Danica Patrick wasn’t very good. She qualified 31st, had a 32nd place average running position and finished 29th. Last season in the lower series at the Glen she had a short race. She only completed 2 laps and finished 43rd. Don’t be fooled by her open wheel background because road courses were an area of weakness for her.
