Charlotte Bank of America 500 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Marcos Ambrose – Don’t overlook Marcos Ambrose for the Charlotte Bank of America 500. He’s been a solid performer at Charlotte Motor Speedway recently. In three out of the last five races he’s finished in the top ten. In last years Coca Cola 600 he could’ve potentially got his 4th top ten in this stretch of races except that he had hub problems while he was running in the top ten. Earlier this year at Charlotte he finished in 10th. He wasn’t tenth place good but many times the races at this track turn into high attrition events. This spring he started in 19th, had a 17th place average running position and earned the 17th best driver rating. This season on 1.5 mile tracks Ambrose really hasn’t been that bad of a fantasy option given the tier he’s in. He has two top ten finishes and has a done a good job bringing home his car at the end of races. In the last five 1.5 mile track races he has results of 9th (Kansas), 15th (Charlotte), 13th (Atlanta), 13th (Kentucky) and 10th (Charlotte). Those results don’t look to bad to me. (Yahoo B Driver)

Denny Hamlin – Charlotte Motor Speedway has been a great track for Denny Hamlin. He has a 13.9 average finish and currently his streak of consecutive top tens stands at six. That’s the longest top ten streak here by two races over Kasey Kahne. The next longest Charlotte streak in the series is two which is held by a couple of drivers. Earlier this year the Coca Cola 600 was just his second race back from when he was sidelined. In the event he won the pole, finished 4th, earned the 4th best driver rating and had a sixth place average running position. In the race his car was good but he had nothing for the primary contenders of the event, they could get around him at will. My question about Hamiln’s performance at Charlotte in May is what happened to that driver? Since then on 1.5 mile tracks it’s been struggle after struggle. Even if he’s had a what’s looked like a decent race he’s had problems. In 2012 at Charlotte Hamlin finished second twice. (Yahoo A Driver)

Greg Biffle – Earlier this season at Charlotte Greg Biffle had a tough race. He started in 7th but when the green flag waved he fell back in the running order. In the race he complained about some sort of shock problem early in the event. Then later in the race on lap 258 when Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s engine blew up he got in the 88′s oil and hit the outside wall pretty hard. That ultimately led to his 31st place finish. Before he wrecked though he wasn’t looking that great on the track. In the 180 laps previous to the wreck he ran exclusively in the 20′s and I would estimate that his average running position was around 23rd. Last year at Charlotte he was good in both races and finished 4th twice. From a career perspective Charlotte has either been a feast or famine venue for him. This season on 1.5 mile tracks Greg Biffle has not been a strong performer. He only has 1 top ten and he’s typically either finished in the mid teens or way back in the field because he’s been highly susceptible to trouble on the track. (Yahoo B Driver)
