Talladega Camping World RV Sales 500 Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer provides the perfect mix of production and safety that fantasy racers are looking for in the Talladega Camping World RV Sales 500. Since 2008 he’s won twice and has a 11.2 average finish. His average finish over this span of races ranks as the best in the series for drivers who competed in all eleven events. Earlier this year at Talladega Clint Bowyer had one of the best cars. Late in the race with 17 laps to go he was one of six drivers who were in a front breakaway driving away from the pack. Shortly after that there was a caution that regrouped the field and he was then involved in the late big one with 6 laps to go. When the checkered flag waved he finished 18th. Last fall at Talladega Bowyer came close to getting his third win. He was the leader at the time of the Green-White-Checker but during the final restart Matt Kenseth came down on the track on Bowyer which caused him to get shuffled out of line. Then during the GWC he got collected in the carnage. Prior to these two most recent races he had five consecutive top tens. On restrictor plate tracks this season Bowyer has been one of the safest fantasy options. Among the drivers who competed in all three plate races his 11.0 average finish ranks as the fourth best. His results at Daytona this season were 11th and 4th. (Yahoo A Driver)

Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth is a good pick for the Talladega Camping World RV Sales 500, and I’m guessing he’ll be many peoples default fantasy pick. Earlier this season at Talladega he dominated the race. He led 142 laps, had a 2nd place average running position, and earned the best driver rating. When the checkered flag waved he finished 8th. What happened is that he got shuffled out of line during the late restart and didn’t have time to recover. Last year at Talladega he was very strong in both races. In October he went to victory lane and led 33 laps. In spring 2012 he finished 3rd and led 73 laps. Prior to that race you have to look all the way back to 2006 to find his next most recent top ten. At Daytona in February Matt Kenseth was very good but had motor issues. In the July Daytona race he wasn’t as nearly good and finished 33rd after wrecking. (Yahoo A Driver)

Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick is a Top Tier Elite drafting talent. When it comes to this discipline of racing he’s as good as anybody. Kevin Harvick has had a tough season on restrictor plate tracks. In two out of the three races he’s been the victim of Kyle Busch’s bumping drafting skills on Kasey Kahne. In May on lap #43 he was taken out when Busch bump drafted Kahne. As a result of that he finished 40th. Last fall at Talladega he was poised to finish in the top five but he was a casualty of the “Big One” on the final lap. Because of his running position he still finished a respectable 11th. From a career perspective this has been a good track for Harvick. He’s a former winner and has ten top tens. It’s important to note though he’s prone to hot and cold spells at this venue. In the one race this season on this track type that he wasn’t taken out by Kyle Busch he finished 3rd (Daytona summer race). In the preliminary races before the Daytona 500 he was dominant. He won his Duel Race and the Shootout. (Yahoo A Driver)
