AAA Texas 500 Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Carl Edwards – In the Lone Star State Carl Edwards has visited victory lane more than anybody. He has three wins and his most recent was in 2008. At Texas earlier this year Edwards had a good car and finished 3rd. His good result is a little bit of a head scratcher though. Early in the race he had engine problems of some sort. During a restart near the mid-point he couldn’t get his car up to speed and he dropped down to being the last car on the lead lap. In the middle segment of the race I would estimate his average running position was around 20th. In the race he was aided by a favorable caution coming out during a pit cycle with about 50 laps to go. With how the caution fell he jumped up into the top ten. He then rallied up to his eventual finish. Last fall at Texas he was off his game and finished 16th. His next three most recent results were 8th, 2nd and 3rd. This season on 1.5 mile tracks Edwards has been a good performer. He has the sixth best driver rating, a 9.8 average running position and a 11.2 average finish. (Yahoo B Driver)
Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. had a great car at Texas earlier this season and could’ve easily won if it wasn’t for a late caution in the closing laps that he lost the lead (on pit road) and ultimately the race to Kyle Busch. In the race he started in 5th, had a 2nd place average running position, finished 2nd and led 142 laps. Also in the race he earned the 2nd best driver rating. Last fall he finished 13th but it’s important to note his 7th place average running position and 5th best driver rating. In spring 2012 he had a great car. In that race he started on the pole, led 69 laps and finished 6th. In fall 2011 he finished 8th. This season on 1.5 mile tracks Martin Truex Jr. has been one of the strongest performers. He has a 10.2 average finish, 10.4 average running position and has the 5th best driver rating. One area of concern though is his Chase performances on tracks of this length. In these races he’s had results of 18th, 19th and 22nd. (Yahoo B Driver)

Clint Bowyer – Texas has been a pretty good track for Clint Bowyer. He has a 12.9 average finish and has had a result in the top ten 53% percent of the time. In four out of his last six Texas races he’s had a top ten result. This spring he finished 15th. In the race his car was slightly better than his result. I would estimate he was about 10th place good but the caution during the pit cycle with about 50 laps to go was unfavorable for him. It dropped him from 10th to about 18th. Last fall at Texas he finished 6th, had a 5th place average running position and earned the 4th best driver rating. This season on 1.5 mile tracks minus Atlanta (engine failure) and Las Vegas (struggled in Gen6 debut) he has a 9.3 average finish and a 10.6 average running position. (Yahoo A Driver)
