Auto Club 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr.’s track record at Auto Club Speedway leaves a lot to be desired. Over the last eight Auto Club races he has one top ten, a 21.5 average finish, 19.3 average running position and the 19th best driver rating. His lone top ten came in the 2012 rain shortened event. Last season at Auto Club he started in 7th, had a 14th place average running position and finished 18th. At the other big 2.0 mile oval track on the schedule he’s performed well recently. Over the last four Michigan races he has a 10.3 average finish and the 6th best driver rating. Although he’s changed employers since last season I still expect him to perform well. On 2.0 mile ovals in 2013 Kurt Busch was one of the strongest performers. At Fontana in 2013 Busch finished 5th and earned the 9th best driver rating. At Michigan in August Busch started in 2nd, finished 3rd and led 43 laps. In June Busch qualified 2nd, led 21 laps but wrecked early in the race. At Las Vegas Truex Jr. had a 7th place average running position, the 8th best driver rating and finished 14th. (Yahoo B Driver)

Paul Menard – Paul Menard hasn’t had a lot of success at Auto Club Speedway in his career. Over 11 races he has a 23.2 average finish and only has one top ten. That top ten result also happens to be his only top fifteen. Luckily his lone good finish came in last years race. In 2013 he finished 8th. That result is slightly misleading. In the race he had an 18th place average running position and only ran in the top fifteen in 33.5% percent of the laps completed. In his next four most recent Auto Club Speedway starts he had a result between 16th and 22nd. At Michigan Menard has had some recent success. In the last three MIS races he has two top tens and a 9th place average finish. At Las Vegas Menard was a solid sleeper pick who came home with a 3rd place result. (Yahoo B Driver)

Jamie McMurray – Early in his career Jamie McMurray was very successful at Auto Club Speedway. In five of his first six races he had a result in the top ten. His last top ten in that stretch of races was in 2006. Unfortunately it’s also his most recent top ten to date. Since then he hasn’t had a result better than 16th. In the Auto Club 400 look for his fantasy ceiling to be in the mid teens. In four of the last seven Auto Club races he had a result between 16th and 19th. Last season he had an OK race but it certainly wasn’t spectacular. He started in 17th, had a 15th place average running position and finished 19th. At Michigan his fortunes have been that similar. His last top ten at MIS was in 2008 and he’s finished in the teens in three of the last six races. At Las Vegas McMurray finished 15th and had a 16th place average running position. (Yahoo B Driver)
