Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Martinsville STP 500
Danica Patrick – You wouldn’t think Martinsville would be a good track for Danica Patrick but somehow it is. It’s the only track on the schedule that she’s visited twice and has finished in the top twenty 100% percent of the time. In April 2013 her performance was shocking. She started in the back due to an engine change and finished 12th. That 12th place finish deserves an asterisk mark. In the race she spun and got lapped early. Also in the race she had a 26th place average running position and only ran 4.2% percent of the laps inside the top fifteen. Last fall she finished 17th, had a 23rd place average running position and the 23rd best driver ranking. Because Yahoo is an allocation based game I think Danica Patrick should get serious fantasy consideration this week.

Austin Dillon – Rookie Austin Dillon has never raced at Martinsville in a Sprint Cup car. That doesn’t mean he’s lacking track time though. In the Truck Series he has four races under his belt. His most recent race was in fall 2011. In that event he finished 3rd, earned the 5th best driver rating, had 6th place average running position and led 45 laps. In spring 2011 he also had a solid afternoon and finished 7th. In 2010 at Martinsville he finished 16th twice.

Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson raced in the 51 car at Martinsville last year and was very uncompetitive. By lap 70 he had already found himself a lap down. Shortly after that on lap 166 his engine blew up and his day was over. He did earn valuable track time from that event even though it was a short race. Prior to the fall 2013 race he tested here. In the STP Gas Booster 500 I’m expecting him to perform better. Part of the reason for the competitive boost will be his equipment. Chip Ganassi cars were good at the paper clip last season. McMurray swept the top ten and Juan Pablo Montoya ran very well in the fall in route to his 13th place finish.
Justin Allgaier – Justin Allgaier will be going into Martinsville nearly sight unseen. In NASCAR he’s never raced here. In 2005 he attempted to race here in the Truck Series but he didn’t qualify for the race. In four of Allgaier’s five starts this season he’s finished between 27th and 31st.
