Pocono 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Paul Menard – On lap 110 at Pocono last August Paul Menard was involved in a multi-car wreck that ruined his day and caused him to finish in 32nd thirty-three laps down. At the time of the incident Menard was running around 20th. Prior to the wreck he was having an up and down day by means of pit strategy. In spring 2013 he finished 30th. That result isn’t representative about how he performed because on the last lap he had a flat tire that ruined his day. With 4 laps to go in the race he was running in 16th. In Menard’s next five most recent Pocono races he’s come home with solid results of 11th, 9th, 10th, 14th and 13th. Don’t underestimate Menard’s fantasy value in the Pocono 400 based off his results in 2013. (Yahoo B Driver)

Jamie McMurray – Last August at Pocono Jamie McMurry had a disastrous start to the event. On lap 11 while he was running in 13th place he came in for an unexpected pit stop because he had tape on his grill that wouldn’t blow off. The tape was from his teammate who was involved in a lap #1 accident. This unexpected pit stop dropped him back to 40th. He was able to rebound from that incident rather quickly though because Denny Hamlin caused a caution not long after that. In the race McMurray finished 16th, had a 17th place average running position and earned the 17th best driver rating. In spring 2013 he started in 22nd and finished 13th. Also in that race he had an 18th place average running position and earned the 18th best driver rating. In 2012 at Pocono McMurray played the strategy game in both races. In June 2012 he finished 10th and in August 2012 he finished 17th. From a career perspective Pocono hasn’t been a great track for him. His best finish is 9th and his average finish is 21st. Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. had a middle of the line performance at Pocono last August. If it wasn’t for segments of the race not counting pit strategy he would’ve spent nearly the entire event running mid pack. In the race he started in 26th and climbed up to 17th in the first 10 laps. Shortly after that he didn’t perform well and fell through the running order. At one point in the race he assumed the lead when he stayed out during a round of pit stops under caution. In the race Truex Jr. had a 19th place average running position, earned the 18th best driver rating and finished 15th. In only 20% percent of the laps completed did he run 15th or better. Last spring at Pocono Truex Jr. performed better than he finished. In that race he had a low double-digit car but while he was completing a late pit stop the caution came out. That trapped him back in the running order and he was never able to recover and as a result he finished 23rd. In August 2012 Truex Jr. tied his best finish here and crossed the finish line in third. In June 2012 his race was basically over before it started because he was involved in an accident on lap #1. The wreck didn’t lead to a DNF, but it did cause him to finish 20th. Between August 2011 and August 2010 Truex Jr. had results of 12th, 10th and 9th. Last year at Pocono Kurt Busch performed well in the 78 car. His results were 3rd and 7th. (Yahoo B Driver)
