Prior to last years race Jimmie Johnson had never lost at Indy when he led more than 1 lap.

Ryan Newman started on the pole and led the first 29 laps. (Time of his first pit stop)

Tony Stewart looked aggressive early.

On lap 13 Dale Earnhardt Jr. was running in 14th and he came in for an unexpected pit stop. He thought he had a loose wheel.

Denny Hamlin fell back early and his car was loose. Started in 4th and was back to 10th on lap 17.

Running order on lap 22:  39,48,99,78,14,42,24,5,20,11 … 9,22,18,2,1,15,51,31,27,29 … 43,33,16,13,55,17,47,55,21,10

Following the first round of pit stops which concluded around lap 31 Jimmie Johnson cycled to the lead. He led laps 31 through 54.

Martin Truex Jr. was up to 22nd on lap 40.

Running order on lap 45: 48,39,99,42,14,78,5,24,20,18 … 22,9,29,2,11,1,31,43,27,55 .. 51,33,16,17,15,13,47,55,21,10

Denny Hamlin was back to 17th on lap 54. He didn’t like his car and said he had nothing to work with.

Timmy Hill ran out of gas on lap 59 during the pit cycle and brought out the caution. This got Dale Earnhardt Jr. back on the lead lap in 14th place. It was a bad break for Jeff Gordon because he didn’t pit prior to the caution.

Kyle Busch loved his car and his crew chief loved his lap times around lap 61.

Tony Stewart said he liked his car and he thought he was better in traffic then other people. Around lap 66 he went from 11th to 7th on a restart.

Jeff Burton’s transmission went out around lap 80. He was running in 17th. Clint Bowyer was on pit road at the time of the caution trying to attempt pit strategy. His car wasn’t good and his crew was going to try to throw the kitchen sink at his car.
