Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Indy John Wayne Walding 400
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson has intriguing fantasy potential for the Indy John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard. Horsepower is very important here and at Pocono he had plenty of it. At Pocono Larson finished 5th and earned the 10th best driver rating. For much of the race he ran around the low double digits but he came on strong at the end. Last season at Indy in the Nationwide Series Larson started in 17th, had a 17th place average running position and finished 11th. One attribute you have to like about Larson this week is his talent. He’s capable of running good at any track. Another attribute you have to like about him is his team. Ganassi Racing puts in special emphasis at this track and teammate Jamie McMurray is a past winner and Juan Pablo Montoya typically performed very well.

Juan Pablo Montoya – Juan Pablo Montoya will be returning to action for the Indy John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard and will be driving the #12 Penske Ford. Earlier this season he ran at Michigan to have a “tune up” race. In the event he really didn’t perform that well and its clear his car wasn’t on par with his Penske Racing teammates. At MIS he finished 18th, had a 19th place average running position and earned the 20th best driver rating. At Indianapolis Motor Speedway Montoya has had some of his most competitive races. He could potentially have 2 wins here but they’ve slipped away from him late in the race whether it’s wrecking or getting a speeding penalty. Last season Montoya had a solid race. He started 8th, had an 8th place average running position and finished 9th. His driver rating also ranked as the 7th best. In his first Sprint Cup Indy start in 2007 he started in 2nd and finished 2nd. In 2009 he started in 2nd, led 116 laps but got a speeding penalty and as a result finished 11th. If it wasn’t for that speeding penalty he likely would’ve won. In 2010 he started on the pole, led 86 laps but had poor pit strategy that got him back in the pack which led to a late wreck. In 2011 and 2012 he lacked success here. In this season’s Indy 500 Juan Pablo Montoya finished 5th. In 2000 Juan Pablo Montoya won the Indy 500.

Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon raced at Indy last year. He drove the 33 and it was RCR prepared. In the race he didn’t perform very well and ran in the 20′s all race long. He started in 20th, had a 25th place average running position and finished 26th. Also in the race he earned the 24th best driver rating and ran 0% percent of the laps in the top fifteen. In the lower series last year he finished 12th. Pocono is the most similar track visited and he had a lack luster performance there in June. His lone highlight of the race was his 11th place starting position. This season on the track Dillon’s strength has been his consistency and his ability to avoid really bad finishes.
Danica Patrick – Danica Patrick has good horsepower but I wouldn’t expect anything special from her performance wise at Indy in the John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard. She hasn’t done anything to deserve the benefit of doubt. In last year’s race she was very uncompetitive. She started in 33rd, finished 30th, had a 30th place average running position and earned the 29th best driver rating. In the race she also finished two laps down. At Pocono this season she ran well at times but got into the wall in the closing laps and finished 37th. In the Indy car series she’s had some highlights here but that shouldn’t weigh in your decision to pick her or not.
Trevor Bayne – Trevor Bayne has three Indy starts under his belt. His average starting position is 23.7 and his average finish is 23.7. Last season he started in 28th and finished 28th. Also in the race he earned the 28th best driver rating, had a 29th place average running position and finished 1 lap down. It was just an uneventful uncompetitive afternoon. In 2012 he started in 18th and finished 17th. Also in that race he earned the 22st best driver rating and had a 20th place average running position. In 2011 he made his first start and finished 30th.
