Watkins Glen CHEEZ-IT 355 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth is a driver who I wouldn’t pick at Watkins Glen but he’s been a solid consistent performer. His Watkins Glen average finish is 15.6. Last season he was having a solid afternoon and performed better than his result. He finished 23rd but that’s one of those results that should get an asterisk mark. The reason for the lack luster result is that he damaged his car with 9 laps to go when he spun Kasey Kahne. At the time of the incident he was running around 10th. Except for low points in the pit cycle he ran exclusively in the top 12 the entire race (Yahoo Race Chart). Also in the race last year he started 10th, had a 13th place average running position and earned the 14th best driver rating. In the six Watkins Glen races prior to last season he finished between 8th and 14th every race. In 2012 he was unusually racy. He started in 24th and tied his best finish of 8th. At Sonoma earlier this season he was having a good race until he had contact with Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Yahoo A Driver)

Brian Vickers – Watkins Glen has never been a great track for Brian Vickers. He has a 24.1 average result and has only finished in the top ten once. In the last two seasons at the Glen he’s piloted the #55. Neither of these races have gone smoothly for him. Last season’s race was pretty rough. During the lap 31 caution his team pushed his car behind the wall to change his fuel setting on his car. They did that because he felt he didn’t have good speed down the straightaway. Since this is such a big track it wasn’t really too much of a problem for him. Later in the race with 6 laps to go he was involved in the Marcos Ambrose accident and he got into the wall pretty hard. At the time of that accident he was running around 15th. In 2012 nobody had a shorter race than him. His engine blew up before he ever completed a lap. His next three most recent results are 18th, 11th and 18th. At Sonoma earlier this season he finished 14th. (Yahoo B Driver)

Casey Mears – If you’re looking for a dark horse pick off the radar Casey Mears isn’t a bad fantasy option. In the last three races at the Glen he’s been successful. Last season he was one of those drivers who you didn’t see until the end but when the checkered flag waved he finished 13th. Through the first two-thirds of the race he never ran closer to the front then 22nd. He was a driver who benefited when Aric Almirola brought out the caution on lap 59. Since he pitted before the caution he was able to stay out and it jumped him up to about 10th in the running order. From there on he hung onto his track position and finished 13th. His next two most recent finishes at the Glen are 15th and 16th. At Sonoma earlier this season he had a strong car and finished 13th. (Yahoo B Driver)
