Pure Michigan 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Marcos Ambrose – Marcos Ambrose has had success at Michigan since the repave. In 3 of the 5 races since the resurfacing he’s finished in the top ten. In the two races he didn’t he finished in the low to mid-twenties. In June he had his worst result on the new surface. He didn’t have any problems at all in the race, he just wasn’t very good. In the event he started in 20th, had a 23rd place average running position and finished 25th. Also in the race he finished 1 lap down and earned the 24th best driver rating. What makes his level of performance a little bit of a head scratcher is that prior to the race he tested here. Last August he had a more successful afternoon. He started in 26th, had a 15th place average running position and finished 6th. From lap 80 to 180 he ran in the low teens and then over the final 20 laps he drove hard up to his 6th place result. In June 2013 he started where he finished. He started in 23rd and finished 23rd. In the race he earned the 29th best driver rating and had a 25th place average running position. In 2012 he performed well in both races and finished in the top ten twice. In June 2012 he won the pole, led 15 laps and finished 9th. In August 2012 he finished 5th. This season on high-speed intermediate tracks he hasn’t been a strong performer. In all the races on this track type minus Kentucky he’s finished between 20th and 30th. (Yahoo B Driver)
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin has not been competitive at Michigan recently. In five of the last six races he’s finished 20th or worse. Over this stretch he’s only had one good finish and that was an 11th. In June he was very uncompetitive. He started in 29th, finished 29th and had a 25th place average running position. Also in the race he earned the 25th best driver rating and ran just .5% percent of the laps in the top fifteen. In 2013 he had an abysmal year at Michigan. Last August the key number you need to know about him is 20. He finished 20th, had a 20th place average running position and earned the 20th best driver rating. In the race he started in 8th but he dropped through the running order like a rock. At lap 20 he was all the way back to 24th. In June last season he was even worse. In that race he had a 29th place average running position, finished 30th and earned the 30th best driver rating. In 2012 he had results of 11th and 34th (accident). This season on high-speed intermediate tracks minus Kentucky where he had problems he has a 16.2 average running position and an 18.8 average finish. Prior to the repaving at Michigan he had success here. In the five races before the new surface he finished in the top ten every race and won two races. (Yahoo B Driver)

Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. had a tough afternoon at Michigan in June. On lap 7 Kyle Larson spun ahead of him and he ran into the back of the #42. From the contact he sustained nose damage and his car was never the same. At the time of the incident he was running around the mid-teens. After that point in the race he never ran higher than 35th. When the checkered flag waved he finished 37th, had a 38th place average running position and earned the 39th best driver rating. Prior to that race he had success at Michigan since the repave. In the first four combined races on the new surface he had a 10.3 average finish, 11.8 average running position and the 6th best driver rating. Last August at MIS he started in 17th, had a 17th place average running position and finished 16th. In the last 40 laps of that race he was a driver who ran between the mid-teens and the low twenties. In June 2013 he had his best performance since the repave. He started in 13th, had a 7th place average running position, finished 3rd and earned the third best driver rating. In 2012 Truex had results of 10th and 11th. This season on high-speed intermediate tracks Truex Jr. has been a mediocre driver at best. In the races on this track type minus Michigan he’s scored the 21st most points and has a 20th place average finish. (Yahoo B Driver)
