Dover AAA 400 Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – For much of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s career Dover wasn’t a good track for him. Recently he’s had improved performances. Over the last five Dover races he has the 5th best driver rating, a 7.2 average finish, 8.4 average running position, led 81 laps and only Jimmie Johnson has ran a higher percentage of laps inside the top fifteen than him. This spring at Dover he had a strong showing. He started in 13th, finished 9th, had an 8th place average running position and earned the 6th best driver rating. Around the middle of the race he drove near the top five. Last fall he started on the pole, finished 2nd, had a 3rd place average running position and led 80 laps. He looked extremely competitive and I’m sure Jimmie Johnson was probably a little nervous at times. In the race he even overcame some self-inflicted adversity when he missed pit road under green. At Dover in spring 2013 Dale Earnhardt Jr. had an OK performance. He had a 13th place average running position, earned the 15th best driver rating and finished 10th. There was nothing special about that performance and at no point did he look like a serious contender. I would say that in 99% percent of the event he ran between 9th and 16th. In 2012 at the Monster Mile he had finishes of 11th and 4th. What makes his 4th place finish stand out is that it marked his first top ten here since 2007. In 2001 Earnhardt Jr. won his only race at Dover. (Yahoo A Driver)

Jamie McMurray – Dover hasn’t been a highlight filled track for him statistically and only once in his 23 starts has he finished in the top five. His last top ten here was back in 2008. This spring at Dover he finished 13th and that’s a pretty good result for him here. In the race he started in 19th, had an 18th place average running position and earned the 17th best driver rating. Over the final 60 laps he consistently ran around 14th. What makes his result so notable is that he damaged his car early in the race when the concrete surface came up. Last fall at the Monster Mile he finished 11th. In that race he started in 7th, had a 10th place average running position and earned the 9th best driver rating. In spring 2013 he finished 33rd but that result deserves an asterisk mark. In the event he had top ten potential but with 74 laps to go he had a cut tire and got into the wall. When he had that problem he was running in 9th place. Prior to that issue he ran nearly the entire event in the top ten. In the four Dover races prior to that race he had results of 15th, 19th, 20th and 24th. (Yahoo B Driver)

Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer has been Mr. Consistent at Dover and has seven straight top tens. Over these 7 races he has a 6.9 average finish, 9.4 average running position and the 6th best driver rating. In June he had one of the strongest cars and finished 4th despite his race not being incident free. On lap 125 while he was running in 4th he was attempting to pass Kyle Busch but he wasn’t clear and as a result the 18 car got pancaked into the wall. From the contact he also sustained some minor damage and lost track position but that wasn’t too much of a problem because his car was strong. In addition to his 4th place finish he also had a 10th place average running position and earned the 8th best driver rating. Last fall Bowyer started in 23rd, had an 8th place average running position, earned the 8th best driver rating and finished 10th. Last spring he started in 15th, had a 12th place average running position and finished 6th. In the race he never ran better than 10th until he did some pit strategy. In fall 2012 Clint Bowyer started in 2nd and had a 9th place result. He could’ve finished a little better but he had to pit for fuel under green with about 25 laps remaining. His average running position in that race was 5.5. In spring 2012 he started in 4th, had a 6th place average running position and finished 5th. In 17 Dover races Bowyer has 2 top fives, 10 top tens and has had a result in the top twenty 15 times. His Monster Mile average finish is 12.1. (Yahoo A Driver)
