Kevin Harvick is Proof the Fastest Car Doesn’t Always Win
Kevin Harvick has won a career-high seven Coors Light Pole Awards in 2014. To put that into perspective, Harvick won just six Pole Awards in the first 13 years of his Cup career prior to this season. He has also led 1,592 laps so far in 2014, which again, is a career-high.
But pit road issues and flat-out bad luck have plagued the #4 team all season long. In the seven races Harvick led the field to the green flag, he has posted an average finish of 8.0 with just one victory that came back in Darlington on Apr 12.
His average finish of 14.0 stands just eighth among the twelve drivers that advanced to the Contender Round in the Chase for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
As the Chase heats up, teams need to hit on all cylinders if they want to be around at the end. Kevin Harvick’s nickname is “The Closer”. Can he live up to that nickname when it truly counts? Only time will tell.
