Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Phoenix Quicken Loans Race For Heroes 500
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson is a driver who you have to like entering the Phoenix Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500. Recently on shorter flat tracks he’s been very strong. In the last three races on this sub-track type he’s scored the 2nd most points, has a 5.3 average finish and hasn’t had a result worse than 11th. I expect his strength from those races will carry over and be a better indicator as to what you should expect from him than his performance this spring. This spring at Phoenix Larson made his first Sprint Cup start. In that event he started 8th, had a 19th place average running position and finished 20th. In the race Larson didn’t perform well and went down a lap under green. Last season in the Nationwide Series at Phoenix Larson had results of 13th and 32nd (accident). In 2012 in the Truck Series in just his third career start Larson finished 2nd and led 43 laps.

Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon has one Sprint Cup start under his belt at Phoenix. This spring he started 24th, finished 24th, had a 26th place average running position and earned the 27th best driver rating. Early in the race he fell back like a rock. In just the first 11 laps he lost 12 positions. The race was comprised of long green flag runs and he went down a lap relatively quick. There is reason in optimism in picking him though. He’s gained a lot of experience over the course of the season and he’s been performing better recently. This season on shorter flat tracks he’s looked good at New Hampshire but in the other three races on this sub-track type he’s finished between 20th and 27th every race. In 2013 in the lower series at Phoenix Dillon had results of 6th and 3rd. In 2012 he had results of 4th and 6th.

Ty Dillon – On Sunday Ty Dillon will be driving the #33 RCR prepared entry. So far this season Dillon has only been in one race. At Atlanta he finished 3 laps down in 25th. Earlier this year in the Nationwide Series Dillon had a respectable day at Phoenix starting in 5th and finishing 10th. Richmond is essentially a reverse Phoenix and in the lower series at that venue this season he had results of 9th and 14th. In the Truck Series in 2013 at Phoenix he finished 4th. Look for Dillon’s fantasy value to be between the high-teens and mid-twenties.
Danica Patrick – Phoenix has not been a friendly track to Danica Patrick and she now has three consecutive results in the thirties. This spring she didn’t have a great race and finished 36th. From a performance standpoint she probably had a low twenties car. Here’s her Yahoo Race Chart to give you a better idea about her level of competitiveness. Her race was far from incident free. It started going downhill on lap 171 shortly after a restart when she was involved in a multi-car accident with Justin Allgaier and Travis Kvapil. The damage from the accident was moderate. From that accident she got a tire rub and her team didn’t fix it completely and on lap 186 she had a cut tire and spun. Last fall she was uncompetitive and finished 33rd. By lap 40 in that event she was already down a lap. In spring 2013 she was involved in an accident and finished 39th. Her best Phoenix performance was her first race in fall 2012. In that event she struggled but at the end she found herself up in 13th but was spun by Jeff Burton on the final lap. When the checkered flag waved she finished 17th. The good news about Danica Patrick on shorter flat tracks is that she’s been performing better recently.
Justin Allgaier – Justin Allgaier has two Phoenix races under his belt. This spring he was involved in a multi-car accident and finished 3 laps down in 30th. Last fall he also finished 3 laps down in 31st. This season on shorter flat tracks his best result was a 20th at New Hampshire in September. Look for his fantasy value in the Phoenix Quicken Loans Race For Heroes 500 to be between the mid 20’s and low 30’s.
