Atlanta Folds Of Honor QuikTrip 500 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
AJ Allmendinger – Atlanta hasn’t been a bad track for AJ Allmendinger. In his first 8 Atlanta starts he finished between 6th and 20th every race and had a 14.4 average finish. At Atlanta tire wear is high and that makes this more of a driver’s race. That helps him be more competitive here than he is at other intermediate tracks. Last year Allmendinger had his worst Atlanta performance to date. He was troubled with vibration issues which struck first around lap 40. In the race he started in 23rd and he ran right around that range until his vibration issues ended his competitive afternoon and led to him going to the garage. When the checkered flag waved he finished 40th. In 2013 he drove the 47 car and had a solid race. He started 13th, had a 14th place average running position and finished 14th. Also in the race he earned the 16th best driver rating and ran 71.7% percent of the laps inside the top fifteen. In 2012 he missed the race due to suspension but in 2011 he finished 10th. His best Atlanta finish was a 6th in March 2010. Last season 1.5 mile tracks weren’t an area of strength for the 47 team and a typical good day for them meant a finish in the low twenties. It should be noted however that he did perform better late in the season at these venues and in three of the last four races at 1.5 mile tracks he came home with a result between 11th and 14th. Austin Dillon – In the Atlanta Folds Of Honor QuikTrip 500 I expect Austin Dillon’s fantasy potential to likely be around the mid to upper teens because that’s how he typically performed at these venues last year. In 2014 at 1.5 mile tracks he scored the 18th most points and had a 17.7 average finish. Also at these venues last season he finished between 13th and 25th in 10 of the 11 races. His one outlier result was an 8th at Kansas in the fall. Last season Atlanta proved to be one of the more difficult tracks for Dillon. He started in 13th, had a 21st place average running position, earned 23rd best driver rating and finished 24th. At no point was he competitive because in the first 40 laps he dropped down to the low twenties and that’s essentially where he ran until the end. In 2013 Austin Dillon made a pre-rookie start at Atlanta. In that event he had a very mediocre performance. He finished 19th, had a 21st place average running position and earned the 21st best driver rating. For nearly the entire event minus the first 30 laps he ran between 18th and 23rd. (Yahoo B Driver)
