Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Phoenix
Regan Smith – (WILL NOT BE RACING AT PHOENIX. Kurt Busch is back)
The clock is ticking on Regan Smith’s tenure in the 41 and it won’t last forever. I think Kurt Busch will be back sooner than later. From an allocation perspective I think that increases his fantasy value. Phoenix hasn’t been a great track for Smith. His best result is 20th and his average finish is 27.9. In six of his nine starts he’s finished in the twenties. In his other three starts he finished in the thirties. His most recent races were in the 2012 season. In fall 2012 he started in 8th, earned the 22nd best driver rating and finished 24th. In spring 2012 he was more competitive but still finished in the 20’s. In that event he started in 3rd, had a 13th place average running position and finished 20th.

David Ragan – David Ragan doesn’t provide much fantasy relief at Phoenix. Currently at this venue he has nine straight results of 25th or worse. Overall since the fall 2011 reconfiguration he has a 31.0 average finish, 31.6 average running position and the 35th best driver rating. In his 16 races at Phoenix he’s only finished better than 19th once. Last season he had results of 25th and 28th. Even being in the 18 car I think the best case scenario for him is likely a result in the high-teens to low-twenties.

Danica Patrick – Phoenix has not been a good venue for Danica Patrick. She has five races under her belt and has a 29.4 average finish. She also has a 29.6 average running position and has run in the top fifteen in just 2% percent of the laps completed. Last fall she started in 32nd, had a 24th place average running position and finished 22nd. In spring 2014 she likely had a low twenties car but was involved in an accident which later resulted in a spin because of a flat tire. As a result of her incidents she finished 36th. In fall 2013 she was extremely uncompetitive and finished 33rd. In spring 2013 she was involved in an accident and finished 39th. Her best Phoenix performance was her first race in fall 2012. In that event she struggled but at the end she found herself up in 13th but was spun by Jeff Burton on the final lap. When the checkered flag waved she finished 17th.
Justin Allgaier – Justin Allgaier has three races under his belt at Phoenix. Last fall his car wasn’t good and he sustained some early damage on pit road while running around 30th. That damage dropped him down a few laps. When the checkered flag waved he finished 37th. His other two Phoenix finishes were results of 30th and 31st.
