Auto Club 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger is likely not on many people’s fantasy NASCAR radar at Auto Club Speedway which is good because this has been a pretty good venue for him. In the last four Auto Club Speedway races his 13.3 average finish ranks as the 10th best among drivers who competed in every event. Last season Allmendinger had a quality performance. He finished 8th and over the second half of the event I would estimate his average running position was around 12th. In his three races prior to last season he came home with results of 14th, 15th and 16th. In his 2013 16th place performance he had an 18th place average running position and earned the 19th best driver rating. Part of the reason why he’s able to perform so well at Auto Club Speedway compared to other high-speed intermediate tracks is that this race plays into drivers hands because of all the different grooves and the aged surface. This year at intermediate tracks Allmendinger has results of 6th and 7th. (Yahoo B Driver)

Greg Biffle – Big 2.0 mile ovals are typically the tracks where Roush Fenway cars are at their best. This race should be very telling about the direction of the organization. At Auto Club Speedway Biffle has been fairly successful. Since fall 2008 minus last year’s race and the fall 2010 race he has an 8.4 average finish, 9.4 average running position and a 101.6 driver rating. Last year Biffle appeared to have a fast car. He started in 24th and marched forward when the green flag waved. Performance wise based on how he ran he looked like he would finish in the top 8. To give you a better idea about his level of performance here’s a link to his Yahoo Race Chart. When you look at his chart you’ll notice a couple big dips. The first was on lap 116. At that time he was running in 8th but had a flat tire. His next dip came with 63 laps to go when his car was overheating. That led to him coming down pit road and getting water pumped into his car in an attempt to cool it down. It’s hard to say that solved his problem because he pitted for heating issues again with 36 laps to go. When the checkered flag waved he finished 40th. Prior to that event he had back to back 6th place finishes. In 2013 Biffle had a solid race here. He started in the rear of the field because of an engine change but by the midway point he reached the top ten and ran there consistently for the rest of the race. In 2005 Biffle earned his only win here. Michigan is similar to Auto Club Speedway. Last year at that venue he looked lost in June but in August he was more competitive and finished 10th. This year at intermediate tracks he has results of 14th and 25th. (Yahoo B Driver)
