Martinsville Pre-Race Notes
This was Daniel Knost’s last race being Kurt Busch’s crew chief.
Kevin Harvick started in 33rd because in qualifying his car was too loose.
Martinsville Race Notes
Martin Truex Jr. had a big tire rub on lap 3. He was running around 21st at the time.
During the opening laps Jeff Gordon ran into the back of Carl Edwards. He got no notable damage from the contact.
On lap 4 Alex Bowman spun and brought out the first caution. Truex Jr. pitted to fix his problem.
Matt Kenseth led the first lap of the restart by running the higher line.
Austin Dillon fell back about 10 positions in the first 15 laps.
Travis Kvapil spun on lap 16 bringing out the second caution.
Jamie McMurray’s car was really good at the exit of corners.

On lap 31 Keselowski was stuck in the outside groove and fell back 11 positions to 17th.
Gordon was in 6th on lap 34. His car was very good over long runs. Hendrick Motorsports tested at Martinsville prior to the race because they struggled on the tire in the spring.
Harvick started in 33rd and was in 16th on lap 48.

Tony Stewart had a good car.
Logano was tight in the center and couldn’t keep his car glued to the track at lap 70. He was in 9th at the time.
Keselowski was in 21st on lap 72.
On lap 76 the third caution came out. During that round of pit stops the leaders came in for the first time of the day.
Top ten following the first round of pit stops: 1,24,48,14,20,18,22,99,11,43. Denny Hamlin lost four spots during the first round of pit stops.
Jeff Gordon passed Jamie McMurray on lap 85. He then went on to lead the next 83 laps.

Around lap 100 Jimmie Johnson pitted from 3rd under green because of a vibration. It dropped him two laps down.

Jamie McMurray’s car was really good arching in the corners.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s car was good over long runs.
Brian Vickers spun on lap 160 with a little help from Kasey Kahne. This is the first time these two got together in the race. During that round of pit stops Brad Keseloweski got caught speeding on pit road.
