Texas Duck Commander 500 Yahoo Qualifying Points Potential
Starting up front is extremely important at Texas. The winner of the last eight Texas races has started in the top ten. Only once in the last 8 races has the winner started further back than 5th. The average starting position of a race winner over this stretch is 3.75.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano has been the best qualifier at 1.5 mile tracks this season. At tracks of this length in 2015 he’s started in 1st and 2nd. In four of the last five races this season Joey Logano has started in the top two.
Kevin Harvick – At Texas Kevin Harvick is the only driver with back to back top five starting positions. Last year he started in 3rd and 5th. Prior to last year at Texas he went 12 straight races of starting 15th or worse. In half the races this season Kevin Harvick has earned bonus points.
Jimmie Johnson – In three of the last five Texas races Jimmie Johnson has earned bonus points for those who have selected him. Last fall Johnson started 3rd. In his career at Texas he has a 8.6 average starting position.
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth should be a pole threat at Texas. Last fall he started in that very position. This season at intermediate tracks minus the Atlanta qualifying fiasco he has an average starting position of 4.5. Currently Kenseth has four straight top ten starts in 2015.
Jeff Gordon – If Jeff Gordon’s on your fantasy team for the Texas Duck Commander 500 there’s a good chance he might earn you qualifying bonus points. In half the races this season he’s started in the top four. Only once this season has he started outside the top ten and that was at Atlanta.
Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch has only qualified at one intermediate track this season and at that venue he won the pole. In two of the last four Texas races Busch has scored qualifying bonus points. Last season he qualified in 4th and 11th.
Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski should be a threat on pole day for bonus points. Last fall he qualified in 26th but in the two races prior to that he had back to back 2nd place starts. In five of the last seven Texas races he’s started in the top 8. This season he has yet to score any bonus points but minus Daytona he’s started in the top 12 every race.
