The Big Moment – Richmond
At every race there’s a big moment which can change the outcome of the event. For example a few past big moments at Richmond in recent years were Clint Bowyer’s itchy arm, a caution in the closing laps and cautions during pit cycles. Think of this post as sort of a spinoff of our Exclusive Scouting Report which now is color coded indicating certain things such as Big Moments, Notable Moments and Running Order.
Last fall’s race at Richmond was rather tame with only four cautions. One was a competition caution and another was when a fan climbed the catch fence.
Only one man last fall single handily brought out a caution and really burned those who picked him. That man is the series most recent winner, Matt Kenseth. No other notable driver experienced a huge issue like him.
Last fall in the regular season finale he looked competitive but his evening wasn’t incident free. On lap 120 his race went downhill after he got into the wall. Prior to getting into the wall he looked like he was on pace to finish in the top ten (Yahoo Race Chart). Because of his issue he finished 41st. Prior to that he had four straight top 7 finishes at Richmond.
