Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray is a quality sleeper pick at Kansas. Last fall he had one of the strongest cars and was a serious contender to win. What made him so strong is that he ran a little higher than others in the corners which allowed him to carry more speed down the straightaways. In the race he started in 14th, had an 8th place average running position, earned the 8th best driver rating, led 27 laps and finished 25th. His result is misleading because his race wasn’t incident free. His first minor issue happened during the lap 84 restart when he was running in 3rd. Him and Gordon got loose together and it dropped him back to the teens. He overcame that issue and drove up into the top five again. Then later in the race on lap 190 when he was running in 7th he got busted speeding on pit road which dropped him to about 20th. He was able to rebound from that also but with 6 laps to go while he was running in 5th he had a tire go down and pitted. In spring 2014 he was on pace to have a great performance but his race wasn’t incident free. On lap 151 while he was running in 4th he heard a pop and then shot up into the wall getting heavy damage which lead to his 39th place result. Prior to getting into the wall he had one of the best cars on the track. In fall 2013 McMurray ran better than he finished. In that event he started in 24th and climbed up through the field at a steady pace. By about lap 90 he climbed up to about 8th and he ran around that range for the next 100 laps. Late in the race he lost track position and was stuck in the mid-teens. When the checkered flag waved he finished 16th and earned the 11th best driver rating. In spring 2013 he had a good result. He finished 7th but that’s largely due to pit strategy. In the race he started in 14th, had an 18th place average running position and earned the 18th best driver rating. In the first race on the new surface McMurray struggled. In the second half he looked better on the track and he came home with a 15th place result. This year at 1.5 mile tracks McMurray has been fast. Texas is the most recent one visited and at that venue he finished 6th and had an 11th place average running position. Las Vegas is the most similar track raced at in 2015 and he finished 11th there. (Yahoo B Driver)
