Charlotte Asterisk Mark Report
Recognizing asterisk mark finishes is extremely important in fantasy NASCAR. It can allow you to find hidden gems from what otherwise would be a situation you would likely avoid. In fantasy NASCAR there’s crashes, flat tires, slow pit stops and other wacky things that can lead to misleading results.
Below are drivers who had asterisk mark finishes last fall at Charlotte:
Jimmie Johnson walked away with an asterisk mark finish last October. He had a strong car that had top five potential but when the checkered flag waved he finished 17th. That poor result can be chalked up to a bad pit call after Brian Vickers engine blew up with 7 laps to go. At that time Johnson was running in 4th but no other front runners pitted. That dropped him back to 10th. Then over the final restart he lost 7 more positions.

Paul Menard was another asterisk marker last fall. His race wasn’t incident free. During the early competition caution Menard got penalized for having a crew member go over the wall early. At the time of that penalty he was running in 8th, but it dropped him back to 38th. He was able to bounce back from that issue but about 100 laps later he had a catastrophic problem. On lap 136 while he was running around 12th his engine blew up.
