When the checkered flag waved he finished 12th, had a 15th place average running position and earned the 11th best driver rating. In August 2013 he had a good all-around performance. He started 2nd, finished 8th, had an 8th place average running position and earned the 7th best driver rating. In June 2013 he had a great performance. In that event his strength was being good over long runs. He started in 8th, had a 7th place average running position and finished 6th. His driver rating from that event ranked as the 3rd best. In 2012 Kyle Busch was good in both races but never had the chance to show it. In June 2012 he had top ten potential but his engine only lasted 78 laps. In August 2012 he was running in 10th but on lap #19 he had problems and pounded the wall. In three of the four Pocono races prior to 2012 Busch had results in the top three. Jamie McMurray – From a career perspective Pocono hasn’t been a great track for Jamie McMurray but since the repave he’s been a solid performer. In the six races on the new surface he has a 12.2 average finish, 15.5 average running position and has finished in the top 17 every race. Last year at Pocono he had his best year ever and swept the top ten. Those two top tens of his last year accounted for a third of his career top ten finishes at the Tricky Triangle. Last August he had a great race. He started 8th, finished 7th (best finish ever), earned the 6th best driver rating and had a 10th place average running position. Last June he also performed well. In that race Jamie McMurray started in 18th, had a 17th place average running position and finished 10th. Also in the race he earned the 14th best driver rating and ran in the top fifteen 45% percent of the time. In August 2013 McMurray’s race got off to a rough start. On lap 11 while he was running in 13th he came in for an unexpected pit stop because debris was on his grille and his car was getting hot. This unexpected pit stop dropped him back to 40th. Luckily for him a few laps later the caution came out when Hamiln got into the wall. In that race McMurray finished 16th, had a 17th place average running position and earned the 17th best driver rating. In spring 2013 he started in 22nd and finished 13th. Also in that race he had an 18th place average running position and earned the 18th best driver rating. Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson had a successful first season at Pocono. In the combined races in 2014 he swept the top 11, had an 8.0 average finish, 12.5 average running position and earned the 9th best driver rating. Last August Larson started on the pole and never led a lap. He had a good car but for much of the event because of pit strategy he ran in the teens. When the race reached it’s conclusion he finished 11th and earned the 10th best driver rating. Last June Kyle Larson made his Pocono debut. Prior to the race he tested here and it paid off because he came home with a 5th place finish. A big reason for his success was pit strategy. He was out of sync with the field and during his final pit stop he was able to take two tires when many others took four. Also in that event he started in 14th, had a 13th place average running position, earned the 7th best driver rating and led 7 laps. It’s important to point out those laps led all came through pit strategy around the mid-point. With Hendrick horsepower under his hood look for him to be solid again.
