Aric Almirola – Aric Almirola has been consistent at Michigan. He’s raced here six times and in five of his starts he finished between 17th and 20th. Last August he was simply a low twenties performer. In the race he started 23rd, had a 22nd place average running position, earned the 21st best driver rating and finished 20th. Last June he had a disappointing performance. Almirola started in 4th and he ran within the top five through about the first 20 laps. Then he started to slowly slide back in the running order. Around lap 120 he was back in 18th. Then on lap 123 while he was running in 19th both him and Denny Hamlin spun. Almirola didn’t get any damage from the spin but when his car came to a stop his nose was stuck in the grass. That dropped him down a lap and had him running around 30th for the rest of the afternoon. That wasn’t his last incident of the day. Within the final 10 laps he got busted for speeding on pit road. When the checkered flag waved he finished 31st. In August 2013 Almirola started in 14th, had an 18th place average running position and finished 18th. In June 2013 he started in 5th, had a 15th place average running position and finished 17th. In the 2012 Michigan races he had results of 17th and 20th. This season at high-speed intermediate tracks Almirola has run well. He’s scored the 12th most points and has a 15.8 average finish. (Yahoo B Driver)

Tony Stewart – There might be a Tony Stewart sighting at Michigan. From a historical perspective Michigan has been a great track for him. He’s only won here once but he’s finished in the top five 40% percent of the time and in the top ten 67% percent of the time. In 7 of the last 8 races he’s finished in the top 11. His one result not in the top 11 over this stretch was due to an engine failure. In the last two years at Michigan Stewart has only been in two races. Last June he had a strong performance. He started in 26th but he raced up towards the front pretty quickly. By lap 15 he was already up to 13th. On lap 34 he was up to 8th. He performed well for much of the race but after the mid-point to about lap 165 he had balance issues because of a hole in his front fender. If he never had any issues I think he likely would’ve finished around 8th because he ran within a deviation of that for most of the event before he had problems. When the checkered flag waved he finished 11th. His next most recent race was in spring 2013. In that event he had a fast car. He had a 10th place average running position, earned the 11th best driver rating and finished 5th. In August 2012 Stewart had a short race. He lost a cylinder early and finished 32nd. In the first race on the new MIS surface he finished 2nd, earned the 3rd best driver rating, had a 5th place average running position and led 18 laps. Auto Club Speedway is the most similar track to Michigan and earlier this season he finished 14th at that venue so there is hope for him. (Yahoo B Driver)

AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger has been consistent at Michigan. Since 2010 at this venue he has a 15.6 average finish, 19.0 average running position and the 20th best driver rating. Also over this extended stretch he’s finished in the top 22 every race. Last August he had a solid afternoon. He finished 13th, had a 14th place average running position and earned the 14th best driver rating. In June 2014 there was nothing special or notable about his performance. He started 25th, had a 23rd place average running position and finished 22nd. In both the 2013 and 2012 season’s he ran one race at Michigan. In June 2013 he drove the 47 car and started 32nd, had a 28th place average running position and finished 19th. In 2012 when he drove for Penske Racing he also finished 19th. His four Michigan results prior to that race were finishes of 11th, 13th, 17th and 11th. This season at high-speed intermediate tracks he has an 18.5 average finish. (Yahoo B Driver)
