Sonoma Pre-Race Notes
Prior to the race Rodney Childers (Kevin Harvick’s crew chief) said that tire drop off over 20 laps is about 2-2.5 seconds. Childers said tires dropped off at two different points during a run (Lap 3 and lap 11).
The pit window was 36-42 laps.
Landon Cassill started in the back because of a driver change.
JJ Yeley started in the back because of a driver change.
Boris Said drove the #32.
Sonoma Race Notes
Jamie McMurray started on the pole and led the first 8 laps. The strength of his car was getting off the corners well.
AJ Allmendinger was at his best in the braking zones. Prior to this race the #47 team used one of their allocated tests here.
Kyle Busch moved up 5 positions in the first 4 laps.
Running order on lap 5: 1,47,99,41,4,42,22,31,55,27 … 10,13,20,24,2,18,48,88,11,16
Notable Moment: On lap 9 Martin Truex Jr. was running in 43rd. He flat spotted his tires on lap 1 and pitted early because it was vibrating so bad.
AJ Allmendinger led lap 9. He went on to lead the next 13 laps.
Notable Moment: Brad Keselowski spun in turn 11 on lap 11 with a little help from Kyle Busch. He was driving around 15th and when he got back up to speed he was in 28th.
Running order on lap 12: 47,1,99,4,41,42,31,22,27,55 … 13,24,20,48,10,88,9,18
15 laps into the race Brad Keselowski dropped farther back in the running order because his car was bad.
Kevin Harvick’s car was very good over long runs.
Boris Said was down a lap on lap 18.
Running order on lap 20: 47,4,1,99,41,42,31,13,27,48 … 24,88,20,16,15,9,5,22,55,17 … 10,11,3,43,38
Tony Stewart pitted on lap 21. He was fairly happy with his car.
Brian Vickers pitted on lap 22. He wasn’t happy with his car.
Joey Logano pitted on lap 22. He said he had no grip off the corners and said he couldn’t put the gas down coming off the corners.
Notable Moment: On lap 22 Kevin Harvick passed AJ Allmendinger for the lead and pulled away.
Running order on lap 26: 4,47,99,1,41,42,31,48,13,88 … 15,27,5,16,9,24,17,11,38,3 (during a pit cycle)
On lap 27 Dale Earnhardt Jr. really liked his car.
Landon Cassill brought out the first caution on lap 31 after his engine blew up.
Notable: Drivers who didn’t pit before the first caution were the : 4,99,41
