Sonoma Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report
NASCAR races are never incident free and somebody is always walking away with an asterisk mark result. Road courses provide plenty of opportunity for trouble to be found. Below are drivers who had a result that didn’t match their performance last June at Sonoma.
Kevin Harvick had a great car last June at Sonoma. I would argue it was the best. His PROS Ranking which shows you who subjectively had the best car was #1. Over long runs his car was in a league of its own. During the first green flag run he built up a huge lead. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. He got shuffled back in the pack by means of pit strategy and then he hit Clint Bowyer after the #15 spun.

AJ Allmendinger had one of the best cars last June. He was top five good and led a race high 35 laps. Pit strategy shuffled him back to the mid-teens around the midpoint and while he was working his way towards the front with 24 laps to go he had contact with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and got heavy damage.
Matt Kenseth has only finished in the top ten once at Sonoma and last year he was vying for his second. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Much like Allmendinger he was a victim of Dale Earnhardt Jr. He finished 42nd but performance wise he had potential to challenge for a top ten finish.
