Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon has shown some fantasy potential at Michigan in the past. Earlier this year at Michigan Austin Dillon had a so-so afternoon and was outraced by his younger brother Ty Dillon who finished 14th. What makes Ty’s finish so notable is that his crew chief from that event is now Austin Dillon’s. In June Austin started 7th, had a 14th place average running position and finished 20th. Pit strategy and how the race concluded led to his slightly misleading result. Last August he started 8th, had a 17th place average running position and finished 22nd. In the middle portion of the race it looked like he could compete for a good finish (possible top ten or low double digit result) but in the last quarter of the race he wasn’t as strong and his car dropped off some. In June 2014 he was on pace to have a good finish but his afternoon unraveled late. With 12 laps to go he made his final pit stop and then the following lap he pitted again because he had a flat. Prior to having that problem he was running within the top 5 through pit strategy. If he didn’t have that problem he likely would’ve cycled to a finish around 13th. When the checkered flag waved he finished 30th. It’s important to note that he had a 13th place average running position and ran in the top fifteen in 88% percent of the laps. In 2013 Austin Dillon had a great season at Michigan. In August that season he drove the #14 car for Tony Stewart and finished 14th. His good result didn’t come easy because on lap 13 he spun and it dropped him down a lap. In spring 2013 he performed better. In that race he drove the #33 car which was RCR prepared. He qualified 7th, finished 11th and earned the 15th best driver rating. This season at high-speed intermediate tracks minus Atlanta Dillon has a 19.9 average finish. Aric Almirola – Aric Almirola has a 20.7 average finish at Michigan and you can just about take that result to the bank in terms of what you should expect from him. He’s raced here seven times and in six of his races he’s finished between 17th and 22nd. Earlier this year at Michigan he had low-teens to mid-teens potential but the race ended unfavorably for him he crossed the finish line in 22nd. Last August he was simply a low twenties performer. In the race he started 23rd, had a 22nd place average running position and finished 20th. In June 2014 he had a disappointing performance and had his only result outside of the range mentioned earlier. He finished 31st in an eventful afternoon. He spun in that race bringing out a caution and got his nose stuck in the grass and then to cap off his disappointing performance in the final 10 laps he was caught speeding on pit road. When the checkered flag waved he finished 31st. In August 2013 Almirola started in 14th, had an 18th place average running position and finished 18th. In June 2013 he started in 5th, had a 15th place average running position and finished 17th. In the 2012 Michigan races he had results of 17th and 20th. This season at high-speed intermediate tracks Almirola has scored the 14th most points and has a 16.1 average finish. (Yahoo B Driver / DraftKings $7,400)
