Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Richmond
Justin Allgaier – At shorter flat tracks Justin Allgaier might be able to sneak in a high teen’s finish. In the first two races on this sub-track type in 2015 he’s finished 18th. This spring Justin Allgaier had a quality showing at Richmond. In the race he finished 18th, earned the 18th best driver rating and had a 17th place average running position. It should be noted he had a little good luck when a caution came out during the pit cycle. At the time of the caution he was one of three drivers who were on the lead lap before others took the wave around. Prior to his good luck he was running right around 20th. Last fall’s race at Richmond was brutal for many drivers because it had few cautions. In that race Allgaier started in 27th, had a 26th place average running position and finished 28th. In spring 2014 towards the end of the race he was knocking on the door for a top ten finish but he got into the wall with 18 laps to go and as a result he finished 21st. To give you a better idea about his level of performance here’s a link to his Yahoo Race Chart.

David Ragan – In 2011 David Ragan had a pair of 4th place finishes at Richmond. Since then his best finish is 20th and his average finish is 27.8. This spring he drove the 18 car and was very uncompetitive. In the race he started 10th, finished 23rd and had a 26th place average running position. If he performs like that in the #18 car at Richmond I don’t see how he can be any better in the#55. In four of his next five most recent Richmond races he finished between 29th and 33rd. New Hampshire is a similar track and at that venue in July he finished 18th and had a 17th place average running position.
Danica Patrick – Richmond has been a tough track for Danica Patrick. Her average finish is 26.8 and only once in her five starts has she finished on the lead lap. This spring at Richmond she was a driver who was “in the way”. Early in the event she almost caused a “Big One” when she had contact with Casey Mears. In the race she started 21st, finished 25th and had a 25th place average running position. Last fall at Richmond Danica Patrick had her best Richmond performance. In the race she started in 13th and finished 16th. That race was comprised of long green flag runs and she was the final driver to finish on the lead lap. Also in the event she had a 17th place average running position and earned the 17th best driver rating. In spring 2014 she was very uncompetitive and finished 5 laps down in 34th. At no point did she ever look better than a mid-thirties driver. She started in 35th, had a 35th place average running position and earned the 37th best driver rating. In her first two races at Richmond she finished 4 laps down and had results of 29th and 30th.
Landon Cassill – Given his tier he’s been respectable at Richmond. In six of the last eight Richmond races he’s finished between 19th and 26th. This spring he finished 26th. Phoenix is the most similar track and earlier this year at that venue he finished 22nd.
Brian Scott – On Saturday night Xfinity Series driver Brian Scott will be driving the #33. In his first race this season in that car he finished 13th. In his other five races in that ride his average finish is 37.2. Seems pretty risky to me. Phoenix is the most similar track visited in the Sprint Cup series and last year in the #33 he started 32nd and finished 32nd. This season in the Xfinity Series at Richmond he finished 7th.
