Joey Logano 2016 Fantasy NASCAR Preview
Joey Logano 2015 Stats: Points Finish 6th, 6 Wins, 6 Poles, 22 Top Fives, 28 Top Tens, Average Finish 9.2, Average Running Position 9.8, Laps Led 1,431, Driver Rating 106.44
Strengths – Joey Logano is an elite driver who’s capable of winning on any given Sunday. Last year he won on every track type except flat tracks but at those venues nobody scored more points than him. Look for Logano to have his very best days at intermediate tracks and short tracks.
Weaknesses – If I were to pick a weakness for Logano it would be that the competition will probably race him harder than others. Despite winning half the races at plate tracks in 2015 picking him at those venues probably isn’t a wise thing to do, especially if your in an allocation league.

Intermediate Track Fantasy Value – Elite
Joey Logano is a fantasy NASCAR ace at intermediate tracks. Last year at these venues minus Texas #2 (early flat tire) he had a 5.9 average finish, 6.3 average running position and led 597 laps. Over this 16 race sample he had 2 wins, 9 top fives, 14 top tens and had a result in the top thirteen every race. At the end of the season Penske Racing really cranked up the speed at these venues with him winning at Charlotte and Kansas and Keselowski dominating at Texas and Homestead.
In 2016 I expect Logano to continue to thrive on this track type. Last year in the two races where the low down force rules package was used Logano had results of 2nd (Kentucky) and 4th (Darlington).

Flat Track Fantasy Value – Elite
Joey Logano didn’t win a race at a flat track last year but nobody was better than him. On this track type in 2015 he scored the most points, had a 6.3 average finish and had a result in the top five in 5 of the 7 races. He only finished outside the top ten once and that was at Pocono #2 where he dominated but ran out of fuel while leading late.
Last year at shorter flat tracks Logano was a phenomenal performer. At New Hampshire he swept the top four with results of 3rd and 4th. In fall 2014 at New Hampshire he went to victory lane. At Phoenix last year he swept the top ten with results of 3rd and 8th. Currently at Phoenix he has five straight top tens.
At the big flat tracks last year he was no slouch. At Indy he finished 2nd. Currently at Indy he has three straight top tens. At Pocono he’s been very strong recently. Since that track was repaved he’s been one of the strongest performers. Last August he dominated the race and led 97 laps but ran out of fuel at the end. In June he started in the rear of the field and finished 4th. In 2014 he finished 3rd in August and was top five good in June until his engine blew up.
Short Track Fantasy Value – Elite
Joey Logano has turned into an elite talent at short tracks. He’s more than capable of winning at any three of them.
At Martinsville he’s developed into quite the fantasy ace. Last fall he led 207 but was wrecked while leading. In the three Martinsville races prior to that he finished 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Bristol has been a superb venue for him. He currently has back to back wins in the August night races. Last spring he finished 40th after wrecking early during a sprinkle. Performance wise since Bristol was repaved he’s ranked as one of the strongest performers.
At Richmond Logano currently has four straight top 6 results. Last year he finished 3rd and 5th.
Restrictor Plate Track Fantasy Value – Elite
Joey Logano had a career year at plate tracks in 2015. He won the season opening Daytona 500 and won the Fall Talladega race. In the middle two races at these venues he didn’t walk away with a good result.
In the season opening Daytona 500 Logano had a great car. It handled well and he led 31 laps en route to victory lane. In July he finished 22nd after getting damage in the early “Big One.” In the last 9 Daytona races he has 5 top eleven results.
Last fall at Talladega Logano raced his way to victory lane. One aspect about him that should be noted is that the spring race has been a trouble spot for him recently. In the last three spring races he’s finished in the thirties.

Road Course Track Fantasy Value – Elite
Joey Logano is an elite road course racer. Last year at road courses he was one of four drivers who finished in the top five both races. For the season at these venues he had a 3.0 average finish and scored the 2nd most points.
In 2015 at road courses Logano only led 1 lap,* but it was the most important lap at Watkins Glen. At that venue he pulled off the last lap pass on Kevin Harvick who ran out of gas. In four of the last five races at Watkins Glen Logano has finished in the top 7.
At Sonoma last year he finished 5th. In the last five Sonoma races he has a 9.6 average finish and the 10th best driver rating.
