Sprint Unlimited Fantasy NASCAR Preview
1) Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be an extremely popular fantasy NASCAR pick in the Daytona Sprint Unlimited. He’s the “Pied Piper” of plate racing and has cemented himself as the driver to beat. Last year at plate tracks nobody was better than him. He had a 1.8 average finish and won half the races. Last summer at Daytona he had standout speed and won from the pole. Nobody had anything for him that evening and he led 96 laps. In the 2015 Daytona 500 he ranked #1 in our exclusive PROS Rankings. He had the best car but made a poor lane selection decision near the end (finished 3rd). In the 2015 Sprint Unlimited he also likely had the best car but pitted under green by himself with 43 laps to go because of debris on his grille. That put him back in traffic and he wasn’t able to reach the front again. When the race reached its conclusion he finished 9th. In 2014 he also finished 9th. The year before that he finished 8th. To find his most recent top five in the Sprint Unlimited you have to go back to his 2008 victory. (DraftKings Price – $9900)

2) Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick will be a contender to win the Sprint Unlimited. He’s a “big money” driver who steps up his game when the stakes are high. In the Sprint Unlimited he’s been very successful. He’s a three-time champion who’s won 3 of the last 7 races. Last year he got some damage from a “Big One” but kept on racing. He was running in 3rd with 2 laps to go but Joey Logano bumped him into the wall which broke his momentum and caused him to fade to an 11th place finish. In 6 of the 7 Sprint Unlimited’s prior to that he finished in the top 7. Over that stretch minus a 2012 wreck he sports a 3rd place average finish. His Sprint Unlimited victories were in 2013, 2010 and 2009. Last year at plate tracks Kevin Harvick was very successful. He scored the 3rd most points and had a 6.8 average finish. At Daytona last year he swept the top 5 with results of 2nd and 4th. (DraftKings Price – $9200)

3) Kyle Busch – The Sprint Unlimited is a wild race and that plays to “Rowdy’s” favor. He’s a past champion of this event and overall he’s been very successful. In 6 of the last 8 Sprint Unlimited’s he’s finished in the top 10. By any standard that’s exceptional for this particular event. In 2012 he had an eventful race and even spun, but that didn’t stop him from finishing first and inching Tony Stewart at the finish line. In last year’s Sprint Unlimited he was never really a factor but he avoided carnage and finished 8th. In 2014 he finished 3rd. In recent points paying races at Daytona Busch has been very competitive but he’s had lots of problems. In 6 of the last 7 races Daytona points paying races he’s finished 17th or worse. (DraftKings Price – $9100)
4) Joey Logano – Joey Logano will be a force to be reckoned with in the Sprint Unlimited. Last year on this track type he was very aggressive and won half the races. One of those victories was in last year’s Daytona 500. Last summer at Daytona he never had a chance to repeat because he was damaged in the early “Big One.” In the last 9 Daytona points paying races he has 5 top 11 finishes. Since joining Penske Racing Logano has been successful in this exhibition race having a 4.3 average finish. Last year he started 3rd and finished 6th. He likely would’ve finished slightly better but he hurt himself at the end when he bump drafted Kevin Harvick into the wall with 2 laps to go. In the two Sprint Unlimited’s prior to that he finished 3rd and 4th. (DraftKings Price – $9300)
5) Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin isn’t a bad fantasy option in the Sprint Unlimited. He’s an elite drafting talent and knows how to get the job down in this particular event. In the Sprint Unlimited he’s crossed the finish line first 3 times and is credited with two wins. In 2011 he crossed the finish line first but was stripped of the win because he went below the yellow line. In last year’s Sprint Unlimited he was taken out in a “Big One” and finished 19th. In 2014 he had the best car and won from the pole. In 2006 he won as a rookie with Tony Stewart being his wing-man and blocking anybody who had a run on him. Last year at Daytona in points paying races Hamlin swept the top five with results of 3rd and 4th. In the last four Daytona points paying races Hamlin has a series best 3.8 average finish. (DraftKings Price – $8400)
