For those who like wrecks they didn’t have to wait long. On lap #3 David Gilliland who was running in 4th spun when he clipped Clint Bowyer’s front bumper. Bowyer was undamaged. Drivers near the back of the field scrambled and that caused a “Big One.” Drivers who got damage near the back of the field were Joey Logano, Danica Patrick, Greg Biffle, Bobby Labonte, Brian Scott, Michael Annett and Sam Hornish Jr. That wreck marked the end of Labonte’s evening.
On lap 10 Joey Logano was black flagged. His car got damage from the first “Big One” and NASCAR black flagged him because his car was dragging parts and they didn’t like how it looked.
On lap 17 Kyle Busch had a loose car and it led to him hitting the wall and getting heavy right side damage. This incident led to him coming down pit road under green which dropped him off the lead lap. Before he got into the wall he was running in the low double-digits.
Qualifying was canceled for this race due to weather and so NASCAR had a competition caution on lap 25. During that round of pit stops Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle were penalized for having too many men go over the wall. It was a good penalty for them to take because both of their cars were damaged.
On lap 53 Carl Edwards was running in 13th but got loose and spun into the inside wall damaging the #19. Fortunately this was a single car accident, but it wasn’t Edwards last problem during the race. During this incident Kyle Busch got back on the lead lap.
On lap 59 David Gilliland had a cut tire and spun by himself. During this incident Carl Edwards got back on the lead lap.
On lap 87 the second “Big One” for the evening ensued. What happened is Kyle Larson got loose and lost control of his car and in his wake carnage ensued. Drivers who got minor damage from this were Austin Dillon and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Carl Edwards and Brian Scott got heavy damage from this incident.
Shortly afterwards on lap 106 the third “Big One” occurred. What happened is that Matt Kenseth turned down across Kasey Kahne’s front bumper. Others who got damage were Aric Almirola, Kyle Larson, Jamie McMurray, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski, Sam Hornish Jr., David Ragan and Trevor Bayne.
After all the attrition things cooled down on the track a little. On lap 128 Danica Patrick who had a damaged car from earlier attrition got into the wall hard because her suspension broke. She was running in 28th at the time.
With 13 laps to go when things started getting racy again David Ragan was running in 13th but spun into the grass. It wasn’t too big of an issue when you consider he finished 12th.
With 5 laps to go the final caution came out when Sam Hornish Jr. spun into the grass. He wasn’t as fortunate as Ragan and finished 30th.
Crossing the finish line a massive “Big One” occurred that was high-lighted by Austin Dillon getting into the catch fence. That accident didn’t impact the results since the race was essentially over.
