Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Las Vegas Kobalt 400
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott has lots of upside at Las Vegas, especially after his strong showing at Atlanta. Last week in Georgia the rookie finished 8th and had a 9.8 average running position. It was extremely impressive. In the lower series Chase Elliott has run well at Las Vegas. In both 2015 and 2014 he finished 5th. Last year at Las Vegas the #24 car was fast. Jeff Gordon won the pole and was top ten strong until he was involved in an accident. Performance wise I expect Chase Elliott to be Front Runner Rankings strong. (DraftKings – $8,200)
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney has one Sprint Cup start under his belt at Las Vegas. Last year he competed at this venue and had a so-so afternoon. In the event he started 30th, had a 24th place average running position, earned the 24th best driver rating and finished 19th. Where he finished is about the closest he ran to the front all afternoon because he ran 0.0% percent of the laps in the top fifteen. In his second trip to Las Vegas I expect him to be more competitive. I would argue Kansas is perhaps the most similar track on the schedule and last fall at that venue he finished 7th. In incident free races at 1.5 mile tracks where he starts is usually a pretty good indicator towards where he’ll finish. Last week at Atlanta Blaney had a quality afternoon and was mid-teens good despite his 25th place result (14.9 average running position). (DraftKings – $6,600)
Brian Vickers – Brian Vickers will be driving the #14 at Las Vegas in place of Tony Stewart. I think he has a great chance to come home with a quality result. In four of his last five Las Vegas races he’s finished between 8th and 15th. Over this stretch minus 2010 when he clearly had a problem he had an 11.5 average finish and a 14.5 average running position. Last year Vickers finished 15th and had a 17th place average running position. In his next two most recent Las Vegas races he finished 10th and 13th. (DraftKings – $5,500)
Brian Scott – Brian Scott has some sleeper potential at Las Vegas. He finished well here in 2015. Last year Brian Scott started 23rd, had a 21st place average running position and finished 13th. Early in the race he looked like a low twenties performer, but in the second half he creeped up in the running order to his result. In 2015 at Las Vegas in the Xfinity Series he started 2nd but finished 38th after having engine problems. In 2014 in the lower series he finished 7th. At Atlanta Scott did not run well. He started 10th and finished 31st. (DraftKings – $5,400)
