Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Auto Club
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just looked at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last spring at Auto Club Speedway, and how good they truly were.
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth had a great car at Auto Club Speedway in 2015 but walked away with an asterisk mark 31st place result. Performance wise a strong case could be made he had the best car. In the race he led 43 laps and was the leader at his time of trouble when he pitted under yellow with 15 laps to go. While he was exiting his pit stall he broke his rear axle. To show you how strong he was here’s a link to his Yahoo Race Chart.

Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski won at Auto Club Speedway last year with a car that was 5th place good at best. He won the race by having 4 fresh tires at the end. New tires against old tires here make drivers look like “Super Man.” He only led 1 lap, but it was the most important lap. His average running position was 7th and that does a good job reflecting his level of performance.

Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin was a contender to win last year but finished 28th. The reason for his lack luster result can be traced to a late pit penalty. It happened with 15 laps to go. Prior to the penalty he was in 3rd and it dropped him deep in the field. For whatever reason he wasn’t able to battle his way to the front again. In the race Hamlin led 56 laps.
